Cashman, who angrily told Alex Rodriguez to 'shut the f--- up' through the media when the rehabbing third baseman tweeted on June 25 that he had been medically cleared to play games, told the Daily News in an email Monday that the Yanks 'will take (Jeter) when he is ready, and yes, he wants to be back yesterday, understandably so.'

Go on... Why are the Steinbrenners or Girardi a joke? I don't recall either of them telling their star player to "shut the F up" in the media?

I think Girardi's actually done a great job with the hand he's been dealt this year. The Steinbrenners have kept pretty quiet for the most part.

The team is everyone else's BUT Girardi's fault. Theres only so much a manager can do with a team.

The first thing you have ever said that I agree with.

Jeter and A-Rod said different things. Jeter made it sound like Cashman was in charge.

A-Rod made it sound like he was medically cleared to play baseball, by a physician.

I know, but he wasn't. I think his doctor said it, but the team doctor didn't. I can understand Cash being a little annoyed, but yes he took it too far.

As a very un-wise man likes to say, "Yknow suzyn, you can't project, but..." at this rate {1-4} Jeter will reach 4,000 hits in 2018 or '19. And that's not figuring in any future injuries.
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to Yankee Stadium. Here are the lineups for todays game...

Not Girardi. I should have said front office.

The Steinbrenners have been quiet, this year. Can't say as much about the last few years, though. Cashman should have followed his own advice.

With his two hits (including a HR), Jeter now has 3,307 hits. It's been a while, but hopefully he's only several days away from tying Eddie Collins with 3,315.

Last night the YES network said Jeter matched Collins. He didn't. Collins has 3,315 hits, not 3,313. Strange.

And MLB.com has Collins at 3,314.

Why is that? It's not like with Cap Anson where he played in disputed Leagues or something.

Due to discrepancies in Collins; hit total (either 3,313, 3,314, or 3,315), I waited until Jeter reached the highest one. He did last night, and is now tied for 10th place. Four more to reach this guy:

Looking ahead to next year, Jeter needs...

3 hits to tie Paul Molitor for 9th place
103 hits to tie Carl Yastrzemski 8th place
104 hits to tie Honus Wagner for 7th place
119 hits to tie Cap Anson for 6th place
...and if he can somehow get 198 hits, which is unlikely, he'll be tied with Tris Speaker for 5th place.

I'll be pulling for him every game (step) of the way. (I think he's pretty much done, but still, my heart is with him).

Speaker still 200 hits away!! .....greatest defensive CF ever to boot....and you wonder why I ranked him 5th alltime??

Today Jeter tied and passed Paul Molitor and is now 8th on the all time hits list.

It's because of Cap Anson. When someone counts his National Association hits, then Jeter is in 9th. If you don't, then Jeter is in 8th.
