I've seen on other forums that when you create a thread, you have the option of adding an "Icon" to your thread indicating what team you are posting about.
I just think it brings a little life to the forum.
For instance, I am making a thread about the red sox, so I would look for a post icon with the red sox logo to be added when it is posted.

Personally, I think team logo smilies is a good idea.

A good idea indeed, and I've thought of it before, especially a few years back when I gave Sean a bunch to put up, many of which I'd created. It'd be a lot of work and time. I'll see what I can do with my spare time (although I doubt the Post Icons DaaBoTownSox is enquiring about will happen).
