2005 World Series Champs
Is there a reason he's not closing games. He has some pretty impressive numbers so far which scream closer. I can see how the Reds might not wanna put pressure on him but he is 24 years old its not like he's 19.
Does anyone know why he's not closing?

Ok that does make sense. I have to wonder though when they baby these guys like this that it ruins their arms but of course I dont have any type of knowledge when it comes to what strength coaches say.

wainwright started as a closer. he did pretty well as a starter later. feliz does not bad either to date.
I think walks are overrated unless you can run. If you get a walk and put the pitcher in a stretch, that helps, but the guy who walks and can’t run, most of the time he’s clogging up the bases for somebody who can run. – Dusty Baker.

Awesome. I don't think anyone has ever seen anything like this speed at the MLB level. Ever. Dalkowski was probably this fast, and possibly even faster. What's the absolute maximum human capacity for mph, and has it changed in the past 100 years? Physicists posit that the absolute maximum HR can be hit by a human being (in theory, without the aid of wind) is 575 feet. Perhaps Mantle actually did pull it off...

Great video. Chapman made Prince Fielder look like a little leaguer twice last season as well. What impresses me is that his delivery is so smooth whether he's in the high 90s or hitting triple digits.
He was slated for AAA to become a starter this season, but when Ryan Madsen went down for the season, the Reds moved him back into the pen as the setup man for Sean Marshall. Wouldn't surprise me as the season goes on for Chapman to move into the closer role with Marshall shifting to the 8th inning job again, but it's also possible that after the All Star break, Chapman could get some starts as well.

He's come back down to earth a little but what he displayed earlier in the season is EXACTLY what I had envisioned the first time I saw him take the mound.
