Thread: "The Chicago WHAT Sox?"

    "The Chicago WHAT Sox?"

Tourist season is starting up in Chicago, and once again Michigan Avenue and downtown are full of little groups, Mom Dad & the Kids, all in brand new caps shirts jerseys etc showing their devotion to the Chicago .... Cubs. The Cubs, only and always. I've never seen them in Sox gear.

This isn't just a sentimental thing. There are sound financial reasons for developing and keeping a strong regional - even national - fan base.

    Does anybody care about this?

Personally and no offense to Iowa residents but i'm glad most of em are Cub fans. Busloads of Iowa fans in the Southside means trouble and only gives Bridgeport more of a black eye when anything bad happens to em.

been wondering about this for a few years.

it wasn't the cubboonies who were going to be moved to Milwaukee or maybe New Orleans not that long ago for lack of support & revenue ...

That was over 20 years ago. The Sox have outsold the Cubs in a few seasons since.

Actually the Milwaukee move was in the late 60's unless there was a different time they planned moving em there. Denver was another destination during Veecks last years and Florida was just a stunt to get the new stadium as far as I know.

Are the white sox still drawing FEWER fans then last year at home/while the losing cubs are drawing MORE fans then last year?

I'll have to check at baseball reference to see how the numbers stack up....I thought for sure with the white sox in contention, they'd draw better...

    2012 Attendence:

    Cubs---(47 games)---37428 per
    White Sox---(49 games)---23816 per

The gap has been closing in the last few weeks, though.

Must be a really dull summer in Iowa if the Cubs are drawing more fans than they did last year. The Whitesox will pick up attendance but honestly I don't care if the Cubs outdraw the Sox as long as the Sox win. Goodluck to the Cubs and I hope they win someday because there alot of fans who want em too.

Also Bridgeport is actually safer than Wrigleyville so you can tell your Iowa buddys it's safe to come watch a game or two here. Just don't bring a busload of you guys. It might be fun to watch a first place team.

that is because you have to go to cubs games more often to see a win.
I think walks are overrated unless you can run. If you get a walk and put the pitcher in a stretch, that helps, but the guy who walks and can’t run, most of the time he’s clogging up the bases for somebody who can run. – Dusty Baker.

Mix it up a bit. Don't pretend the 1980s didn't happen.

Gawd that 70s Sox logo was awful.

The '76-'90 logo was so good, just so good. The '91-present one is cliche city. It's about fun and good times. Don't run from color. Love the country, red, white and blue!

Those 70s and 80s uniforms were uglier than the back end of a gorilla. I saw a fan poll last year of the top ten most ugly uniforms of all time and both Sox unis made the list.

I suppose even clown suits can be patriotic, eh?

The clown picture probably is closer to the Dodgers and Mariners colors.

Bring back the underlined cursive script!

Quit trying to be baseball's answer to the Raiders. Love color. Wear color. Quit trying to formalize things. Embrace fun and good times. Feel good about the game. Baseball parks are supposed to be fun places. Color adds to the ambience. Color looks better in person, it looks better on television. We know this, don't deny this. The days of being drab are over. Introduce an updated version of these unis. Add some horizontal red and blue stripes to the bottom of the sleeves and red and blue stripes to the pants. Color is needed. Color is wanted. Don't settle for looking like a poor man's Yankees. Create your own identity. Cater to the funner demographic. Conservative looks are boring looks.

I'll admit the Whitesox have put out some pretty ugly uniforms but a Mariners fan is one of the last guys who should be making fun of the any teams uniforms.

The Sox probably sell more retro uniforms than most teams too.

The Sox have had a LOT of uniforms over the years. Most of them awesome. The current set is one of the best in MLB, although I wouldn't mind replacing the silver with red. I always loved these babies

I didn't make fun of the White Sox uniforms. You either confused me with someone else or didn't comprehend my posts. I didn't post the stupid picture of a clown. I just believe it's time for a change on the South Side. Introduce color. You may disagree, but I actually like that old White Sox starter jacket. The White need to bring back the blue and red motif. The current black and white is stale, conservative, stuffy and formal. Color is good. Color is right. Color is the answer.

I probably didn't comprehend your post, I suppose when you said the Whitesox are stealing from the Oakland Raiders and are a poor mans Yankees I looked at that as taking a shot at the Whitesox uniforms. Again some are pretty ugly but the only really bad years were from 1976-1989 and I liked the 1976-1981 uniforms minus the shorts.

I didn't think you were serious when talking about the jacket since it came from one of the uglier type uniforms. The jacket does look pretty good though.

I didn't say they were "stealing" from the Raiders, I said being baseball's answer to the Raiders. Retire the conservative pinstripes and introduce blue and red as the new colors with uniforms with an underlined cursive script. It works for the Royals and Dodgers, but the addition of the blue and red colors would set the Sox apart, in a good way.

Actually, those script uniforms are probably the White Sox most conservative (and dull) uniforms they've ever worn.

What is "conservative" about pins anyway? There are only 6 of 30 teams that wear pins and the Sox wear them as well as any team ever has.

I think adding the red as a trim would look nice to the current uniforms.
