Since Quintanilla began playing regularly at shortstop, I'm sure I'm not alone by saying I've been quite happy with his performance, both offensively and defensively. The question is, when Tejada eventually comes back, should Collins platoon the two? Quintanilla against righties, and Tejada against lefties?

Tejada has more upside. We should be developing him by playing him against both.

I dunno. I'm more dismissive of Cedeņo than I am of Quintanilla, so, imo, he should be either sent to Buffalo or used as part of a deal.
As well, I agree about Tejada's upside and developing him for both. But he's still young, and I think, given the production Quintanilla has shown in his brief time with the team, a platoon at this point shouldn't be out of the question. My instincts right now say Tejada will be ready for full-time play by next season, with some work to be undertaken during the off-season, but currently, I'd go with Omar against righties.

We're going to NEED some bullpen help down the stretch, and I think it's a safe bet to say the Mets (barring a, well, Mets-like collapse in the next two weeks) will be approaching the Trade Deadline n the running for the NL East crown/one of the two Wild Cards.
And if we're going to trade, we obviously need someone TO trade...
So I could easily see Cedeno going as part of a deal, though I'm not sure who'd go with him...we have a crowded outfield as well, maybe someone not named Nieuwhenhuis could be shipped off...Bay's a possibility, after two concussions in the field and a not-so-friendly experience hitting at Citi Field overall (though he's been a bit better of late) he may be willing to waive his no-trade clause for a contender in the AL (MAYBE THE RED SOX! LOL, they need something to jumpstart them, but how funny would THAT be?) and then perhaps the Mets send Cedeno/Bay/etc. to some AL club that could use a young shortstop or a DH or both, or something of that sort.

When Tejada comes back there's no way I would play Quintanilla over Tejada on a regular basis.Tejada is a 22-year old
shortstop of the future who is batting .305 with an on base percentage of .362,a slugging percentage of .400,a fielding
percentage of .970 for this year and a lifetime fielding percentage of .985 with better range and a better arm.
Quintanilla is a 30-year old journeyman who is batting .258 with an on base percentage of .352,a slugging percentage of
.371,a fielding percentage of .970 for this year and a lifetime fielding percentage of .974.Plus,Quintanilla never batted above
.238 before this year.Also,with Quintanilla batting lefthanded and Tejada batting righthanded with a lot more righthanded
pitchers than lefthanded pitchers in the major leagues Quintanilla would see a lot more playing time than Tejada when
Tejada should be starting over Quintanilla on a regular basis in the first place.Plus,when Cedeno comes back Quintanilla
may not even still be on the team after that as there's a reason why he was fourth on the depth chart at shortstop in the
first place.

Well, we're all certainly entitled to our opinion, but Collins may have different thoughts by now, and I still stand by mine.

I was ignorant on the subject as they both seemd to be doing OK. I know the AARP and the ageism lobby will be after me. Unless the team is on the cusp and the old guy is better there is no way no how a 30 y.o. unproven player starts over a 22 y.o. unproven player. Hehe... Yeah, I am kinda disappointed with that. Not the loss of Quintanilla, but why on earth wouldn't they use him as part of a deal. I mean, it's not like we don't need... ummmm... someone in the bullpen. Why not just throw out the baby with the bathwater? Omar would've been just what some team could've used as part of a deal to give us an arm in return. Who's in charge of this team? Unfrigginbelievable.

I dont understand it either. The market is huge right now for .218 lifetime hitters that are 30 years old. The Mets can have easily got back a pine tar rag for him.

Oh, gimme a break. The guy could've been part of a deal to fetch at least something. And don't even try to suggest I'm talkin' about including Harvey, Wheeler, Mejia, Flores, Whitenton, Pill, etc. I'm sure there are a few teams out there who could use a lefthanded-hitting SS along with one of our scrub relievers in return for ANYTHING. DFA'ing him was nothing more than a waste.

I totally agree. Also, he had the best range on the team.

Milla any deal he would have been a part of he would have been a throw in. He would havent bolstered the deal nor detracted from it. A non entity in my opinion.
