I wouldn't be here if I didn't know that. There's also no denying there are 30 teams currently in MLB and a hell of a lot of great players who did not play for the Yankees. What other teams did matters, too.

I am by no means a Yankee hater. But I also believe extreme myopia can bring on hating for the sake of hating.

Not you, not the great majority of Yankee fans on this site. But they're many who just stoke those fires.
I hear ya Cap, they make a lot of Yankee fans look bad.

I was surprised to see Swisher on this list, but the more I think about it the more it makes sense, especially if we look at the jealousy aspect of this poll. Swisher is a well-known ballplayer. I wouldn't say his name recognition is up there with A-Rod or Jeter, but he is probably much more well-known than most of the players who will be on the roster for this year's All Star game. He's famous, even more than the average Yankee. The problem other players might have with this is that he's only been an all star once in his 9 season career. His WAR is about substitute level for his career. He's never led the league in anything, and he's a pretty awful fielder to boot, yet I see interviews with Nick Swisher on Sportscenter on a regular basis. Why? Is he the team spokesman? Any turmoil or big win with the Yankees, and you always get the interview with Jeter, A-Rod, and Swisher. It would be like the Nationals winning a big game and seeing post-game interviews with Strasburg, Bryce Harper, and Steve Lombardozzi. I think other players hate the fact that a player as replaceable as Nick Swisher gets so much attention from the media and fans.

ESPN eats up that kind of stuff because they think it's what the target demographic wants. It's a feedback loop.

Yes, those poor poor multi-millionaires, feel bad for them when they get to negotiate what they make

This is the biggest problem I have with the Yankees is not the players, but their fans...they rub most people the wrong way with their arrogance when they win and their whineyness when they dont

Well we're even, because I don't know what you're alluding to above.

Seriously, you don't know why I wouldn't like A-Rod? Nothing comes to mind?

What ever Swisher and AROD are hated for by "some", thats fine, but if not for the NY on the uniform, they might be hated a bit less.
Over the years on this board and some other boards, some Yankees not liked or hated...............just because they are Yankees.
A few years ago, on this board, forgot who was challenging Joe Dimaggio's 56 game streak. A few posters............in their own words, hoping the record gets broken..............because they did not want the record to be held by a Yankee.
    Joe,
I can only speak for myself, but as I detailed in post #9, I didn't like Swisher before he was a Yankee.

I was aware of that when I posted, your feeling was pre-Yankee.

Never going to excuse Yankee fans who go overboard with all the history of winning.

But I can tell you this, if it was a team from Chicago, Detoit, Pittsburgh or any other city with all those pennants and World Series, for sure you would see the same thing from "some" from the city and some from their fans, it's just human nature.

I loved being a Yankee fan from way back, saw lots of winning, but on the other side when they don't win you really hear it over and over, but, part of the game and expected.

My father a Yankee fan, maybe it's hereditary, told me about that famous line Yankee fans hear when they don't win..........Hey what happened to your Yankees, thats what he heard on the job.
He heard that at the end of the 1954 season, Indians take AL crown. He heard that after the Yanks won 5 consecutive WS. But, thats the way it goes with the Yanks............what did you do this year

For the some who crow over and over about all the winning, it's not that it's the Yankees and NY, it just happened to be the Yankees and NY. Hoping that makes some sense, it seemed to make sense when I wrote it.

PED? The mega salary? Opting out? The "bush league" antics you mentioned? Cameron Diaz?

Excuse me? Which poll was this? Who voted? I followed your link but didn't see anything about that. That's absolutely absurd. Philly fans have a LONG standing bad rep. I don't have a clue how Giants fans would be considered the most obnoxious. Show me this poll, I think that's ridiculous.
The San Francisco Giants won the 2010 World Series and no one can ever take that away from me!

In 2012 they did it again. Nope, can't take that one away from me, either.

The July issue of Men's Journal will hit newsstands on Friday, and it features a survey that should appeal to baseball fans.

After appealing to them, this survey will get baseball fans to arguing. 'Tis the way of things.

The magazine went out and surveyed 100 different major league ballplayers, asking them to determine who the most hated player in baseball is, who the least-respected manager is, who the biggest trash talker is, and so on.

Men's Journal also asked players which city has the most obnoxious fans. According to Yahoo! Sports, here's the top three, as determined by the players:

    1. Philadelphia, 36 percent
    2. San Francisco, 22 percent
    3. New York, 12 percent

Anyone who read Moneyball knows that Swisher's always had a big mouth. There was a lot of talk in that book about how he had a much more brash personality than the other ballplayers being recruited.

For what it's worth, it might be said that I "hate" Alex Rodriguez, but only because he's a Yankee. Once guys put on the pinstripes, I just can't root for them. I never really had a problem with him before that. Honestly, it didn't seem like anyone hated him until he went to New York. As soon as he got there everything he did got magnified and he was turned into something of a villain. In a way I kind of felt sorry for him for a long time, because it always seemed like the media was trying to drum up hatred for him based on the idea that he wasn't a "true Yankee," which is just pathetic and reeks of self-importance. Was there any indication that other players hated him when he was with Seattle or Texas?

Just read through this thread, most of the reasons are there.

It's in the article I linked to in the OP. Eighth paragraph fom the top: That’s not all. New York was also voted as the city with the third-most obnoxious fans, behind San Francisco and Philadelphia.

That's absolutely ridiculous and absurd. At the VERY least, Dodger fans are FAR more obnoxious. I dispute this vehemently. Giants fans should be nowhere near the top of the list.
