Please check Posts #31, #34, and #36 in the HTD Thread. Unless I made weird mistakes, the DB also bid $0.50 for 3 years on Rick Manning, $0.50M for three years on Dave Bergman, and $1.0M for one year on Pete Falcone. Thanks. Jack

Are you still allowed to bid in FA even if you already have 40 men on your roster? With the understanding you will have to make cuts after it is over.

Yes, you can bid as long as you stay under the cap. Players cut at this point will still count against the cap.

We'll start the status roundup: the Skipjacks are at 39 players and $91.50 mil on their roster. Won't be a whole lotta action here.

The Legends have 35 players at 92M. We need five players and have 8M in cap space. We won't be big spenders either!

The Lumberjaxx have 32 players at 82M. They need eight players and have 18M to spend. I don't think they will be a big player either (but we might go big on that one guy we need).

Mark, Brett Butler shows up on the most recent FA list you sent out. He was taken in the first round of the rookie draft by the Thunder.

--Knights are at 27 players for 82.50M. I thought that meant we wouldn't be big players this year, but seeing some of the other totals makes me think maybe we'll get a quality player or two.

The Thunder are at 46.25 Million for 23 players plus 4.25 in bids out for 2 players (Fred Lynn and Enos Cabell)

The Tyrants have 78.25 Milion comitted to 35 players. Not a ton of cash, but enough to be players in this FA market it seems.

--The Gamblers are looking pretty good. I think they have a really good shot at ending the Corsairs 3 year reign over the Chadwick.

Badgers are at 33 players and 92.250 salary. Leaving me with 7.750 for 7 players.

It does appear that this might be a year to try and snag a bargain. I can picture a couple of guys going for really big $$$ because of the cash some teams have to spend, but there are a lot of guys available who may not get a lot of bids because several teams don't need many players to fill out their rosters. Should be interesting. I think I enjoy this the most of any off season activity, because it's interesting to see how each owner values different players and/or different positions.

I've got 109 roster spots open with three teams yet to check in (on this thread): the Dust Bunnies, Gold Sox and Maloy Boys. Though the Iron and Gamblers are expected to go over 40 and cut a couple players after the auction. We Skipjacks may as well.

Wow, that's a lot more than I would have guessed. I hadn't counted at all. Of course, I always forget that with 16 teams, even if each team only needs to replace 8 guys that's 128 players. Maybe there won't be any bargains after all!

With the signing of HTD free agent contracts to Blyleven and Hood, the Maloy Boys are at 27 players and $77.75MM in salaries.

--Well probably half of those spots will end up filled with minimum wage roster filler that you hope you never need to use. Quite a few more will be sort of usefull guys where the bidding tops out at a million or two. There is a shortage of front line pitching in this auction so the top guys will probably get huge paydays and some lesser guys will probably get overpaid.
--For position players I don't have a very good feel. If a couple teams with money to spend are after the same guys it could get pricey, but there could be some bargains depending on team need. Its not a great class overall so I am not counting on landing even a middling player at a reasonable price. It should be interesting and my strategy could end up changing several times over the course of the week.

Mark - I found Tom Brennan listed among the free agents, too. He was drafted in the third round by the Angels. I knew he had to be drafted - I wouldn't have taken Cappuzzello at #48 over him.
