    Whitesox and Cubs Outfielders

I was thinking about the Whitesox alltime team the other day while reading about Whitesox catchers and I never realized this until afterwards but the Whitesox and Cubs have never had a outfielder who was a first ballot caliber type player. The Cubs had Billy Williams, Sammy Sosa, Andre Dawson and Hack Wilson while the Whitesox had Magglio Ordonez, Joe Jackson, Minnie Minoso and I guess you could put Jim Landis as one of the best outfielders. Unless i'm forgetting somebody I would have to say these are the best.

It's pretty amazing how two clubs with well over 200 years between them have only come up with these guys. I would have to say Billy Williams is the best because he was more of a career Cub than Joe Jackson who really had his best years in Cleveland.

The Cubs could also have Kiki Cuyler and Riggs Stephenson too but neither of them are close to being first ballot types either.

Goofy post I know but I was kinda bored.

Good point. I recently put together all-time teams for each of the "Original 16" franchises (you can see them on my blog if you're interested), and both Chicago teams were fairly weak in the outfield:

    Cubs

    LF Billy Williams
    CF George Gore
    RF Sammy Sosa

    White Sox

    LF Joe Jackson
    CF Fielder Jones
    RF Magglio Ordonez

While I love the Cubs' icons, Billy Williams is actually more of a borderline Hall of Fame selection than many people realize.

Interesting blog Ian, I see you have Fielder Jones as the Whitesox centerfielder pretty good choice actually, because I was always torn between Landis and Lemon.
