I watched it. It was fun to watch. Kaufman Stadium is a real nice facility every since they ripped up the AstroTurf in favor of natural grass. And the added seating and other upgrades.

I just wish that Felix Hernanadez (Mariners) got to play, but I undertand the rationale for holding him out. Really, it was nice of Washington to do that. Plus, if he had played Felix, he could have been accused of trying to sabotage an opposing player/team in the division.

I don't think anybody is too concerned in Texas or out about anything the M's are doing, quite honestly.

Felix fans 12 Rangers in shutout

SEATTLE -- Felix Hernandez didn't get to pitch in Tuesday's All-Star Game, but the Mariners ace created his own Midsummer Classic with a three-hit shutout in a 7-0 victory over the Rangers' star-studded lineup Saturday night at Safeco Field.

Hernandez handled a Texas team that was starting six players who had been All-Stars at some point in their career, outdueling fellow AL All-Star pitcher Yu Darvish in the process as he threw his second complete game of the season while striking out 12 with no walks.

Hernandez, who turned in his fourth 10-plus-strikeout performance of the year and 20th of his career, whiffed Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz three times apiece.

Hernandez continued his powerful midseason run as he improved to 7-5 with a 2.92 ERA. Over his past six starts, the 26-year-old is 3-0 with a 1.40 ERA (seven runs in 45 innings) with 56 strikeouts and six walks.

He may have had legit concerns about Felix's health, but he wasn't trying to ward off angry eyes from M fans or coaches from a team irrelevant in the standings.

I don't care how many pitches he threw, but if he pitched the Sunday before the ASG, then Washington couldn't use him.
The San Francisco Giants won the 2010 World Series and no one can ever take that away from me!

In 2012 they did it again. Nope, can't take that one away from me, either.

Try telling that to Matthew C. lol.

(Not to mention the fact that the Rangers first series after the ASG was against the Mariners. How would that have looked to try to sabotage the Mariners ace by pitching him.)

That was my point - he wasn't going to pitch him due his innings. I don't think the fear of facing mad M fans had anything to do with the choice. He didn't not "sabotage" Felix for PR, he didn't "sabotage" because he never intended to "sabotage."

The point is it had nothing to do with numbers of innings or numbers of pitches. Washington was NOT ALLOWED to use Hernandez because he pitched on Sunday. It's a rule.

Thats deff a rule I agree on that baseball has.

I disagree with it. In the WS, pitchers play with even less rest if necessary. I also feel pitching every four days with a 150 pitch count limit wouldn't increase injuries one bit.
Averaging one home run every 10.61 at-bats throughout an entire career - an amazing stat that gets little respect, yet will NEVER be broken!

Yeah but during WS time pitchers and managers know they have a whole offseason to rest up. Adding innings to a pitcher in the middle of the year for a somewhat meaningless game doesn't seem right.

Pitching in an exhibition is a far cry from pitching in the WS, and the intention of this rule is to relieve the manager of the option to use the player so that no one can accuse him of what people are suggesting Washington might have done. MLB took stood up and made the decision so the ASG manager doesn't have to.

I agree about your hypothesis about injuries. I think pitchers could very well be worked up to higher pitch counts and that large salaries and nervous, itchy owners are largely responsible for pitch count useage being so prevalent in the game today.

I just read the TV ratings for last week. Even though the ASG was down on last year's numbers it was the highest rating show all week, with 10.9M. It beat America's Got Talent @10.69M and Big Bang Theory @9.03M. It was a slow week or does it show that Baseball is still America's?
