Ironically, his picture was on the season ticket for Saturday's game (it was the 57th home game of the year, and Santana's number being57)...

Very sad to see Johan's season (and quite possibly his Mets career) slide this way...

Though I suppose Johan's sort of emblematic of the team this year--

A surprise early on, astonishing everyone with the impossible, a Mets no-hitter and a team in the race...

    And then along came July.

The Mets are on the hook next year for $31M - for a chronically injured, very occasionally brilliant sub-.500 pitcher with an ERA over 4.00 who no longer goes deep into games. They can't trade him. And he's eating half the budget the new middle market Selig strategy would have them spend. It ain't good.

Lord I wanted him traded June 2nd less than 12 hours after his no hitter. Now we are just plain ole stuck. No knock on Yohan - he pitched well when he pitched overall, but this team doesnt need a pitcher with that salary on a team going nowhere..............and I mean going nowhere in 2013. I am hoping 2013 is really the start of a rebuild.

I can live with that. What I wont live with are some dumb ass moves to fool the fans .....yet again... into thinking that the season is 3 months long..

No hitter = One small step for man; one giant leap for mankind.

(Sorry, it needed rephrasing for perspective purposes.)

On a logical level--yeah, no impact.

    On the sentimental-

That No-Hitter and Dickey's pitching are pretty much the highllights of the season, and the no-hitter had historical significance for us...

Take that away, and it's just a bad season; add that night, and it's a bad season with one really great night where everyone was happy (or, as absolutes tend to get chewed to pieces by you--and, again, logically for good reason--we can say MOST Mets fans were happy for Johan and happy to be a fan for that one great night.)

I was happy about it also, and it was a great night, but I still think its a bad season with the no hitter.

I hate to make this analogy again but here goes:

The food on the Titanic was really good......does that make that cruise good?

    Shutdown for the season.

“At this point I’m very confident he will be back next season and ready to go and hopefully in a stronger position than he was coming into this season,” Alderson said.

The Mets still owe Santana $31 million beyond this season, which would include a $5.5 million buyout if his option isn’t picked up for 2014.

Alderson said Santana experienced the back soreness during his start on Friday in Washington. The lefty had a flare up during a bullpen session on Monday.

Frank Thomas had 34 hr and 94 rbi for the Mets in '62. Team records that held up for 13 years. Must have been a good year for the Mets in '62. Oh wait, they lost 120 games.

I too was thrilled with the no hitter, but I also was calling for him to get traded before he got hurt. Oh well, with nearly half the team payroll tied up in Bay and Santana, look for the Mets to just keep selling those All Star Game tickets to get fan interest in 2013.

At least I vacation in Los Angeles each year; I'll be able to see David Wright play in a Dodger uniform.
