    1981 Season Thread

--Welcome to the 21st season of CKL baseball! Normally one series will be played everyday. After each series game results, standings and injury reports will be posted. I'll alternate between team pitching/batting reports and league leaderboards every other series.
--Also, a new league file will go out for DMB owners after every other series. Lew posts box scores and additional information on his web site after each new league file so non-DMB owners can access that info. He also provides a news sheet and picks batter/pitcher of the week so its worth a peak for DMB owners as well.

Ready to go. I hope both teams are competitive this year. I can foresee the Legends winning close to 90 games again without making the playoffs. Could happen to the Jaxx, too.

I think this year has the potential to see some very good teams miss the playoffs.

--THis should be one of our most competitive seasons ever. I see 13 of 16 teams with realistic playoff hopes and not monster teams with a virtual lock. I've seen my Knights finish from 1st to third with some frequency - although first is probably the least often. The Corsairs have finished from 1st to last, although again first is an "everything goes right" scenario.

I'll be running some sims myself once I get the official DB with all the human generated MPs. Using the computer generated MPs doesn't usually give a very accurate picture, with some teams having guys play at 400% usage or more, and many over 200%.

--Well some of the initial MPs also have guys going well over, but less than the random generator. The human MPs made a huge difference in my sims. The Knights were winning the division about half the time and the wild card half of the remainder with the roughs, but only an occasional division title and slightly more occasional wild card since (the Angels were the main result changer for them). The Corsairs weren't doing quite as good against the rough MPs, with less than a 50% playoff chance, but its dropped down to more like a 10% chance with the owner inputs.

I prefer the computer generated sims. My Boys were consistently winning over 100 games and usually were division champs in this environment. I'm guessing that will change for the worse against human MP's. :-)

I usually use preseason Sims to measure playing time more than performance.

Because the season seems so up in the air, I predict the playoff picture will be clear by mid August.

Mark, somehow I missed the fact that Jim Norris who I had on the Tyrants roster retired after the 80 season, so scratch him from the roster and all lineups. Lopez is indeed Lopes, just a typo on my end. And if I can get an update FA list, I'll sign a replacement for Norris for the Tyrants.

Based on what Mark was saying, I'm not so sure. Taking what I said about computer generated MPs into account, the sims I ran often went down to the final few days, with a one game margin deciding the division on more than one occasion.

I generally use them to test different lineups/rotations, and to check usage in doing so. Sounds like we use them for pretty much the same thing.

--First series' in the books. Four teams got to celebrate opening days with sweeps. The Thunder demonstrated they are a very different team from last year by managing only 2 runs in getting swept - and lost starting Lfer Jose Cruz for a month as a bonus. The Knights and Tyrants put up the most fireworks to start the season, putting a combined 49 runs on the board and ranking 1st and 2nd in runs scored.

--With 2 series in the Corsairs are the only remaining undefeated team and everybody has recorded their first win. After only 2 injuries in the first series there were a bunch in thsi one.

DL Kennedy and Frazier. Call up Waits and Brenley. And I'm not sure who took Norris' place on the 25man roster, but send him down and call up Clay.

Insert Trevino in as the starting catcher and Brenley as the backup. Make Waits the 4th starter and Jackson Todd the 5th starter set to skip. Put Clay in the bullpen and give him Frazier's duties.

Here is what the 25 man roster should look like.

    Rotation:
    SP Gaylord Perry
    SP Dan Schatzeder
    SP Rick Sutcliffe
    SP Rick Waits
    SP Jackson Todd

    Bullpen:
    RP Neil Allen
    RP Shane Rawley
    RP Dave Stewart
    RP Ken Clay
    RP Doug Bair

    Lineup:
    C Alex Trevino
    1B Bruce Bochte
    2B Frank White
    SS Robin Yount
    3B Butch Hobson
    LF Oscar Gamble
    CF Kirk Gibson
    RF Sixto Lezcano
    DH Hal McRae

    Bench
    C Bob Brenly
    IF Duane Kuiper
    IF Davey Lopes
    IF Vance Law
    OF Lou Pinnella
    1B Andre Thornton

For the Thunder, DL Cruz put Woods into his spot and call up Butler.

    3B: Carney Lansford
    RF: Lee Lacy
    C: Jim Sundberg
    SS: Larry Bowa

    LF: Larry Herndon
    2B: Derrel Thomas
    1B: Cliff Johnson
    PH VS RHP: Youngblood
    PH VS LHP: Leonard

    Lineup vs LHP
