You have Addie Joss pitching mop-up? I'm sure you must have some sort of master plan, but for the life of me I can't figure out what it is...

I hope this isn't true. Knowing Garry for some time in the CKL, I don't think it is. Drafting for the future is one thing; positioning players with the intent to increase the likelihood of losing is another.

Yeah, I'm not suggesting that - I just think that's where we are heading

Addie Joss in the mopup role speaks to the strength of our pitching than anything else.

    Rube Waddell: 2.05 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 178 ERA+
    Bill Bernhard: 2.15 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, 160 ERA+
    Joe McGinnity: 2.84 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 117 ERA+
    Bill Dinneen: 2.93 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 121 ERA+
    Ed Poole: 2.10 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 142 ERA+
    Rube Kisinger: 3.12 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 120 ERA+
    Addie Joss: 2.77 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 124 ERA+

Waddell and Bernhard are a clear #1-2. A case could be made for Joss being the #3 starter ahead of McGinnity or Dinneen, however the numbers are similar and both have over 350+ more BF than Joss so I elected to use them as starters and work Joss from the bullpen at least to start the season.

As for his role in the bullpen, I felt that Joss could get more innings in the mopup role than in the long relief role. If he pitches well and/or either McGinnity or Dinneen struggle early on we'll likely make a switch. Ed Poole could also be in the mix for a starting spot if he pitches well in the closers role. He has less BF though so we likely won't consider using him as a starter until at least june.

7 quality pitchers makes for some tough decisions, still it is a nice problem to have!

    Play Ball!!!

The 1902 season is undeer way, and Jamestown & New Orleans start things off in grand fashion as both teams post league best 8-2 records. They open the season with 2 game leads over the next best teams. Seattle gets clobbered with the injurry bug right off the bat losing 3 players for a combined 52 days

Big news for New Orleans Fans. As expected the Barons stellar pitching staff made headlines this week, but not from whom they expected. Frank Kitson threw a no-hitter against the Sharks in front of a home crowd. 2 batters reached in the game for Laquey - on an eror in the second and a walk in the 3rd.

I have a computer manager question. I have Happy Townsend listed in the spot starter slot for all of my starting pitchers. When Chick Fraser went down with an injury, I would have assumed that the CM would have used Townsend to replace him in the starting rotation. Instead it chose to use Jim Gardner who is only listed in the #2 slot as a LH and RH setup reliever. Gardner only gets 33 innings this year before he exceeds his 130% and a bunch got used up in that start. Any thoughts?

By the way, please replace Fraser with Townsend in my starting rotation until further notice.

--Well that sucks. Last year was one injury after another, but at least they didn't pile up this much. Starting 3B Jimmy Collins and backup John McGraw down for a dozen ovelapping games . My bench is okay, but not really up for going 3 deep anywhere.

Geez, the Bums lose three one run games to the Express right off the bat! Not a great way to start the season. The battle of Chautauqua Lake is on again!

Townsend threw 57 pitches the day before Fraser was scheduled to pitch so the computer manager went with a guy who had no role set up. You have Townsend as your #1 mopup and long relief pitcher. I would imagine this will happen to you a lot if you keep him in those roles.

I missed that Townsend had pitched the day before. Thanks.

Way to go, Big Frank! I'm not shocked my team tossed a no-no, but yeah, Kitson would've been the last starter I would've guessed to do it. BTW, has anyone run some pre-season sims? I was wondering if wondering if the Barons were projecting as well I as I hope they are.

And on that note, the Barons remain in the market for another bat, preferrably an OF.

I haven't done an analysis of the AL yet, but I definitely expect you to take the top spot in the NL (based on analysis, not sim)
