Is this woman at 0:10 performing the same active 'rear leg action' here? She's able to move left, then right, then left again.

noon, I was puzzled by his swing last night.

But, it looks pretty standard just before contact.

Then, he was fooled by a 92mph sinker and had to throw his hands down a little. Since he usually rolls the side of his foot foot, he sort of fell down a little after the swing.

(edit: heh, now I see that the Pirates are not dressed in Marlins uniforms)

I guess we always have to remember that magic does happen sometimes.

I've got Goldschmidt as a similar style to Gattis... anyone else come to mind?

great gif. what is the gattis Loop?
I think walks are overrated unless you can run. If you get a walk and put the pitcher in a stretch, that helps, but the guy who walks and can’t run, most of the time he’s clogging up the bases for somebody who can run. – Dusty Baker.

Ahh.. I was just making reference to the first GIF I made that had the looping/repeating part of the rear leg drive. It was a GIF of Evan Gattis so I was calling it the "Gattis Loop" as a joke. This GIF:

good work. very different lower bodies though.

craigs front leg and pelvis seem to be fused as a unit so that the rear leg drive drives the pelvis and puts down the front leg. gattis also drives his rear leg but with him it Looks like he shifts to the front leg to put the heel down. also not so "fused" in the front hip Joint.

builder must certainly love the craig Video, since craig is really "Holding the ball"

    Stealing these clips for sure.

Dom, are you telling me the back leg is not turning while the rear hip is still loaded? Doesn't matter if he appears to be shifting what you are describing is the shift then swing pattern we see in other teaching systems where the front leg/hip play a much stronger role. From the part where he looped Gattis, his back side will now spring through almost effortlessly because of the action in the back leg. The styles are different but compare Gattis to several of the clips I posted of those following the shift-then-swing methodology and you should see the difference.

I just wanted to put out the evident external rotation of the rear foot as he pushes off. It's not a conscious teach, but it does happen. Now carry on.

Isn't that more an eversion than external Rotation?

Yes, it's more eversion. I wouldn't worry about the foot until everything else is right.

That's the thing. You shouldn't ever have to worry about the foot. If you load/unload the hip correctly the foot takes care of itself. It's not a conscious thing. The body is amazing the way you can teach a big action and the brain takes care of all the little things without us thinking about it.

agree, although I believe proper arm movement takes care of the hips
