Thread: World Series Losers Draft

    what are we waiting on?
    1. The more I learn, the more convinced I am that many players are over-rated due to inflated stats from offensive home parks (and eras)

I wouldn't want to frustrate anyone by keeping them waiting too long.

Another question about the draft that might be relevant: DH or no DH?
I hope you'll join us - I don't think anyone should complain about waiting - it gives us more time to research our picks.

Yeah I don't mind waiting either. Plus with you we always have an idea when you'll be on.

If Ian joins that will give us 8 which is enough for a draft.

I think we're waiting on Ben Grimm to confirm what the rules are going to be, since we've raised questions and made suggestions, but there hasn't been an official word yet.

I would think the way we did it for the WS winners draft would be ok.

I was afraid that would start to happen. It takes a while to set up and get thru a draft. That's why I like the question that was asked by Second Base Coach in the ELO rater draft if we really need a draft format or could we just pick our team using a set number of points and then just vote on who has the best team. Anywhere from 50,00 points to 25,000 points has been suggested - I think 35,00 points would allow us to make some very good teams similar to current major league teams (no team can have all expensive players - even the Yankees!) - a team simply doesn't have enough money or in our case points - 35,000 points would allow us to have a few superstars but then do some research to fill out our roster with the best players with the points we have left (much like the current major leage teams have to do now).

So sorry guys. my vid card burned out and i needed to get it replaced and just picked up my laptop tonight. If we're still on for this, I want to keep it moving as my absence at the worst time got people disinterested.

What I guess i'd like to do is get this whole thing started by Sunday if we have at least 8 people. I'm going to pull down rules from past drafts that have worked, but may make a tweak in that I might actually let trades got thru on this. Not sure if it's been done before, but might be an interesting addition. Also, if you're totally against it, just say so as I'm simply on the fence.

Once again I apologize for not being around the past week. Goes to show how lost we (or at least I) am without the ability to simply get online.

I'm fine with trades so long as they have a majority of league approval.

Okay. A rules thread has been developed. It's based on the WS Winners draft that seemed to run smoothly.

So far, here's who we have playing...

    JohnShoemaker
    BenGrimm
    MattC
    Tyrus
    RoyHobbs
    Wade (Still interested?)
    Chicagowhitesox1173 (Still interested?)
    Ian (Possible)
    BigRon (Possible)

I'd like to have at least eight teams and more makes it even that much more challenging.

Once we do have enough teams to give us a workable league, I'll create a "Rosters Thread" and "Trade Proposals & Approvals Thread". We'll do the draft itself in the Rules/Discusion thread so as not to clutter up the forum with too many. I'll list draft order there along with all players/seasons selected for each team as reference.

Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I think it's probably not a good idea for me to do this right now. I really wish I could, but my current situation is less stable than I would like it to be. I'm sorry if I led you on too much. I'm definitely interested in watching from the sidelines though. Maybe I'll even pop in with some comments during the draft.

We've had drafts with seven people before that went great, so I don't think you need to be married to an eight-team minimum. I'm sure that of the remaining candidates to join, you'll be able to find at least two others.

Sorry not to have you, but I understand. Maybe you'll be able to jump onto the next one when we start it up.

Looks like Ian's a no-go. Maybe at worst, if he has a minute available, he can toss our names into the draft order site to keep things fair. I'd also like him to be involved in the voting process since if he's not in the league, he'd lend a total unbiased opinion.

BigRon has some personal things (no not medical or anything like that) to take care of but may have interest if we're still looking for teams by Tuesday.

Once we have a few more teams involved, I'll announce a starting point for the draft. This will give all of us a day or two to get ideas together. So far we have 5 definites, 2 older definites prior to my vid card going out who I'd like to hear a confirmation, and one or two possibles but not likely's. I honestly think ChiSox and Wade will want to be in which will put us to 7 teams. Not bad. I think 8-10 would be optimum, but less than that is fine with me as long as we all can adhere to the 12-hour limit. I simply don't want a dead team is all.

I assume to get confirmations from both by tomorrow and then I'll start the kickoff. We'll have a 2-day buffer in which to target players and such. Don't forget, you can trade picks/players in this draft. If it works well, it may be carried over to others. If it fails, oops. lol. Looking forward to this as it should be good fun.
