Josh Fields hit 23 home runs as a White Sox rookie in 2006. Apparently, Americn League pitchers figured him out the next year and he has stumbled badly since then. In parts of five seasons ( Chi.WhiteSsox 2006-2009 & KC Royals 2010) he hasn't impressed much since his rookie year. Major league seniority-wise he's at just 2 years, 159 days (13 days short of a full 3 years' seniority credit),so you can see that he hasn't spent any full seasons in the majors, just partial ones. He hasn't appeared in a major leagues game since 2010 and his lifetime average is just .234. He played a decent third base and that's why he was signed, for depth at that position. Fields turns 30 about three weeks from now, on December 14.

Interesting note from a writer for the Denver Post...
Troy Renck@TroyRenck
If Braves get Upton should help clarify/intensify market for Fowler. Phils, Nats might emerge but Rox asking price will be very high
I like Fowler. In fact, i see him having a big breakout year (ex: 25/25) with a .300 average once again.... IF HE"S PLAYING IN COORS.
Dexter seems like a typical high-altitude player as his splits show:
Home OPS - .882
Road OPS - .698
He can play CF, but I'm not going to be sold on the overall numbers we'd be shown once (if) a deal is done. It also depends of course on what the Phils would be giving up, because his overall road numbers are very pedestrian.Last edited by Ben Grimm; 11-26-2012, 09:37 AM."Chuckie doesn't take on 2-0. Oops. My bad - too early in the morning :stupidme:
He hits well in Coors, but not all that great outside of those confines. Hey, if it costs something like Kendrick, I'm all for it. But I highly doubt that's what they want. They're surely looking for a starter with upside closer to being MLB ready.
Annnnd, now it looks like I somehow deleted my original while editing. Here's what it should have read...

According to CSN's Jim Salisbury, the Phils are in serious talks with Houston about a trade for RP Wilton Lopez.
Lopez, 29, was 6-3 with a 2.17 ERA in 64 games for the Astros last season. A sinkerballer, he registered excellent control numbers, striking out 54 and walking just eight in 66 1/3 innings. He had 10 saves after taking over as closer when the Astros traded Brett Myers to the White Sox.
If acquired, he'd be the team's setup man leading into Papelbon. The Phils were interested in Ryan Madson until he signed with the Angels. Lopez is heading into his first year of arbitration after making $515k last season. MLBTR projects him to earn $1.4M this season, which would be much more inexpensive than either Mike Adams or Koji Uehera. He's 29 years old entering the 2013 season."Chuckie doesn't take on 2-0. CBS is now reporting that a deal has in fact been done with the Astros. Haven't heard which player(s) is heading to Houston but they're already Philly West after trades for Oswalt and Pence the past few seasons."Chuckie doesn't take on 2-0. Word is that it'll be at least two prospects who are close to MLB-ready. This could be a landing spot for somebody like Ruf as he'll be a 1B/DH option for them now that they're in the AL. I wouldn't be surprised if somebody like Michael Schwimer was involved as well. Could also see Valle instead of Ruf since the Phils are rather deep in the C position after acquring Joseph from San Fran.Last edited by Ben Grimm; 11-28-2012, 08:29 AM."Chuckie doesn't take on 2-0. Lopez is in Philly for a physical. Let's hope it's not the one they gave Freddy Garcia. He had an elbow issue in June, and the Phils want to make sure there's no long-term effects."Chuckie doesn't take on 2-0. If this move goes through then my basic reaction will be "It's about time". I'm rather disappointed in General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr.'s offseason performance so far. On the eve of the Winter Meetings the Phillies have done practically nothing this offseason. It's disappointing to see that after a terrible year where the Phillies sank from the winningest regular season team of the last few years back to a .500 record that the Phillies front office showed no signs of urgency in addressing the team's needs, and in fact were beaten to a number of free agent sisnings by other teams.Last edited by philliesfiend55; 12-01-2012, 10:53 AM.

Apparently, the Lopez deal fizzled out. Last I heard, he was in town to get a physical. I wonder if there was an issue with his elbow after all."Chuckie doesn't take on 2-0. Chuckie's hackin'." - Chuck Carr two days prior to being released by the Milwaukee Brewers

#Phillies plan to non-tender outfielder Nate Schierholtz, source says. He was eligible for salary arbitration."Chuckie doesn't take on 2-0. Chuckie's hackin'." - Chuck Carr two days prior to being released by the Milwaukee Brewers

With Schierholtz non-tendered, the Phillies will have 37 players on their 40-man roster. Looking at other non-tenders around the league, there are two I wouldn't mind seeing the Phils give a minor league deal with an invite to ST.
First is RP Peter Moylan. He's been injured for much of the past two seasons, but he does have a 2.59 career ERA and induces ground balls at a 64% rate which suits well for CBP. If he works out, he'd add experienced depth to the bullpen at a minimal cost.
The other is 3B Ian Stewart. As an everyday player, Ian can't cut it. But with the limited availability of 3B via FA or trade, this may end up a pure platoon position. While Stewart can't hit LHPs, he hit right handers fairly well. If he & Frandsen are to take the hot corner, it'd free up money for the Phils to address the OF positions."Chuckie doesn't take on 2-0.
