Joe Hicks stepped to the plate for the Mets in 1963 at the Polo Grounds against the defending NL champs, the San Francisco Giants. Find out how a sacrifice bunt turned into a game-winning home run in extra innings, in what was a rare win for the Mets that season.

Another nice one, Nick. One thing that doesn't come up in your piece is that Hicks spent time playing and managing in Nicaragua -- in fact, he married a Nicaraguan woman. Ted Schreiber, who also played a bit for the '63 Mets, played for Joe down there too and spoke highly of him.
