FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Mariners have acquired Michael Morse in a three-team deal that will send John Jaso to the Athletics and A.J. Cole to the Nationals.

Terrible trade. Nothing positive for the Mariners here. The Mariners needed offense so their solution was to trade their best hitter, in Mariner logic, I guess that makes sense. I look forward to new ownership and a new front office. Zduriencik may be a decent drafter, but pretty bad at everything else. Terrible day in Mariner history.

--Well Jaso did have a career year last season and I wouldn't really expect him to repeat it. There is a good chance that Morse is a bigger offensive contributor this year. The problem is Morse doesn't really have a position (I assume he will be our regular RF or LF, but he is terrible out there). This is at best a small upgrade for the M's this season and Jaso was under team control for 2 more years while Morse will be a FA after this one. Also, whoever we get to replace Jaso as backup catcher is likley to be a big downgrade offensively. Also, I'm afraid Morse and Morales are going to be our "big moves" of the offseason and the Mariners needed to do more than that.

The Milwaukee Brewers are looking for a first baseman. Could Seattle swing a deal to exchange a first baseman for a Milwaukee prospect?

Mike Carp should be available. He has no options left and there's really no room for him on the roster.

The Mariners have designated Mike Carp for assignment to clear roster space for Joe Saunders.
