    Cardinals Uniform Changes

Quite the shock this morning to hear the Cardinals are introducing an alternate uniform. In addition, they have made "substantive" changes to their home and away jerseys. I prefer to leave well-enough alone, but I guess the Cardinals have decided they need some extra money in their pockets..

I like the off-white color, and the piping down the front. Cant say I like putting the city name instead of the team name on a home jersey.

They actually do look pretty good.

May I ask why a Cardinals uniform article got moved to the Cardinals section, but the Astros uniform/logo, etc topic did not? Just wondering is all..

So the road jerseys will still say "Cardinals"?

Looks like the non-alts will be virtually the same.

I think they'd look better if they went with the piping as the 1940s-era Cards unis were.

Also, ditch the red shoes already--this isn't 1992 anymore.

The other big change, not mentioned, is that the red caps and belts will now be worn on the road. The all-navy road cap will be used only occasionally.

I thought that was strange too? Oh well . . . This day in age all one can ask for is "Partial Quality" . . .

I never understood the "rule" that a road uniform must have the city instead of the team name--especially since...

The idea is that the home fans identify the players with the team persona while the road fans recognize them as the 'other.' Obviously it's a convention that has never been universally applied. There's nothing wrong with having team names on both, nor for that matter with having city or location on both, as Texas does now; that's just presenting a consistent face for both sets of fans. But it's odd to have a home jersey with a city name and a road jersey with a team name.

I s'pose that's true, although in these days of numerous specialty/alternate uniforms nothing would be that unusual to me anymore.

Even the Yankees during the Ruth/Gehrig era wore YANKEES on the road, not NEW YORK.

Also worth noting--when the Cards last wore these unis, they were worn at home.

The Cards will be wearing the red caps on the road instead of the blue caps. I like the idea: it makes the team look more consistent with caps.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim use ANGELS on their home and road uniforms.

Wished they could have kept the road caps. Like those better than the home caps. I like the Cards' new jersey. Certainly better than the Astros!

Have to say I've very pleased to see Red caps will be used on the road. Every year, during Spring Trainig I remark how good the red caps look with road gray's. The navy caps are classic Cardinals, but I've never found enough navy in the uniform for them to look quite right. Close, but not quite...

To paraphrase Rick Pitino, Stan Musial ain't walking through that door. Let's not forget 'The Wizard of Oz'. These are the best Cardinals uniforms, it's time for them to return, pullovers and sansabelts or bust.
No more pretentiousness. Just fun and good times for all!
