I beg to differ. Kuroda's ERA+ was 126 to Sabathia's 124. His WAR was 5.2 to Sabathia's 3.3 and his ERA was 3.32 to Sabathia's 3.38. He had more wins, more complete games, more shutouts and so on.
yes kuroda was objectively better than CC (more IP, slightly lower ERA). however that does not mean he will repeat that. CC has proven that he is that good and kuroda has yet to do it (yes I know his career ERA is similar to CC but the NL west is much weaker than the AL east).
still a good signing even if he regresses a little.
I think walks are overrated unless you can run. If you get a walk and put the pitcher in a stretch, that helps, but the guy who walks and can’t run, most of the time he’s clogging up the bases for somebody who can run. – Dusty Baker.
