Yankees sign Hiroki Kuroda

There hasn't been a new post in this forum since yesterday, so I thought I'd add a couple recent notable events.

The Yankees signed 16 game winner Hiroki Kuroda to a one-year contract a few days ago, a year after he went 16-11 with a 3.32 ERA in 33 starts. He was perhaps their best starter last year, slightly edging CC Sabathia for the honor.

I beg to differ. Kuroda's ERA+ was 126 to Sabathia's 124. His WAR was 5.2 to Sabathia's 3.3 and his ERA was 3.32 to Sabathia's 3.38. He had more wins, more complete games, more shutouts and so on.

Umm what? He was better than CC up through September. CC was average this season. Still ate innings, but couldn't go toe to toe with another teams ace. Kuroda could. His problem was he was getting no run support.

yes kuroda was objectively better than CC (more IP, slightly lower ERA). however that does not mean he will repeat that. CC has proven that he is that good and kuroda has yet to do it (yes I know his career ERA is similar to CC but the NL west is much weaker than the AL east).

still a good signing even if he regresses a little.

I'm not sure if you are talking about career but talking 2012 season, he was better than CC and far more valuable.

If Kuroda has an edge it is in innings but I think the Yanks were being conservative with CC and I would not hold that against him.
