I know that Sean Smith's TZ does not include pitcher defense. My question is, are the runs pitchers are saving/costing their teams defensively ignored all together (influencing team seasonal TZ numbers), or are the runs they are saving/costing being absorbed by the other fielders somehow?

If it doesn't include pitchers defense, then how does it account for this.... A pitcher interferes with sure-fire double play ball and the middle infielders not only can't turn two, but rarely get the runner at first. Just curious.Originally Posted by Matthew C.

My guess is that they leave pitcher defense out of team TZ, so that the pitchers retains credit for their good defense in their RAaA total but not team TZ total . My guess is, if they added pitcher defense, team TZ would shift too. But anyway, ball-hogging is an issue that every defensive metric maker is trying to resolve.
