I think that Taiwan is way better than Israel.

I think that Canada and Dominicana are even.

I think Puerto Rico is better than Mexico.

I do hope Taiwan finishes ahead of Israel but don't forget Israel is made up of American player.

On paper there is no way Canada is better than DR.

I believe Puerto Rico will go all the way to the semis this is a team that never gets the credit they deserve despite having one of the best records in WBC history.

It will be interesting to see how Puerto Rico handles not having home field advantage in the first round; they have always hosted a first round group.

Have you taken a look at the preliminary roster of Taiwan?
Tons of their best players cannot participate in the event this time due to the boycott of Lamigo Monkeys.
Plus they lack of both of their best pitcher and batter.

How is it possible for one team, the Lamigo Monkeys, to torpedo
Taiwan's chances in the World Classic 2017 ?

  7. #1667
During the Lead-Up to the World Classic in 2006, 2009,
and 2013, there was a series of games between MLB
Spring Training teams and Classic teams.

Does anywhere know where the schedule for these games
    can be found?

    Thanks.

The same reason they don't have a say in MLB; The Caribbean Series has Reinforced League Champions from five nations. For example last year's champion, team Mexico was not only made up of Mexican players, the first six batters in their line-up were non-Mexicans. The Caribbean Series is a bit misleading, because national uniforms are worn, even through most teams use players from all over the world. The WBSC (IBAF) does not have a say in Professional League affairs.

So based on what you are telling WBSC only has control over amateur tournaments under their jurisdiction.

It sanctions international competitions, but it has more input in events outside of the WBC. The Caribbean Series is not played between Federations but Professional Leagues; so it is made up of Pseudo National Teams which dress the part, but really aren't National teams.

I can't believe this place is so dead after the WBC rosters were announced.

After seeing the bad turnout for Canada, I can understand why this might be the last WBC. Players just dont want to bother it seems in March. Im now of the opinion that I think an-after season WBC should be tried because the pre-season WBC just isnt working to me.

25 All-Stars from 2016, over 60 guys who have been All-Stars, pretty much all the top stars from the NPB, KBO and Cuban Serie Nacional (minus Otani due to injury) - lots of talent out there.

Maybe spring training should start a couple of weeks earlier on WBC years so this way players and managers don't have to worry about missing portion of spring training. I don't think an after season tournament would be better because players would be too tired after such a long season. Maybe shortening the season to 152 games on those years could be another alternative.

The MLB rep on reddit Baseball actually asked the community what they thought. Here's the thread:

I have been on board with a November WBC for the longest, but off-season PEDs testing, Winter League opposition as well as competing directly with the NFL, NBA, NCAA & NHL would make this a long shot. Then there is the extreme fatigue list, but MLB occasionally sends players to Japan for tours. A November time table would be fine as long as players and their team's formulate a plan to get ready and prevent any fatigue related injuries. Worse case scenario, potential injuries in November are a lesser evil than potential injuries in March.
