Whats with all these beards this year?

I just purchased the MLB package and I can't believe how many players nowdays have beards. I'm guessing this is some sort of fad because even basketball players are sporting thick beards.

    James Harden, maybe.

I have a beard of my own, so beards dont bother me much. (though it is a normal full-beard, not too thick, albeit I do need to do some trimming at the moment)

I think Jayson Werth is being attacked by a small groundhog on his face.

    Josh Reddick:

Even Justin Turner has a beard for some reason.

Speaking of The Mets, Ike Davis and his beard are hitting .173. Maybe a shave would change his luck.

The beard has been "in" for 2-3 years now. I'd really like to see the mohawk go out of style actually.

Speaking of beards and mohawks, what is Brian Wilson doing right now? He hasn't signed with a team, has he?

I had heard he was waiting to try out for teams until he was totally healed

Hmm. I thought he had to have a signing done before the season started.

Why don't the Giants want him back?

Why is this picture making me think of Grizzly Adams?

Out of control facial hair looks unprofessional. It's also biting the hand that feeds them because the Gillette company has been a MLB sponsor since 1939.

He was clean shaven earlier in the season. He put the razor away and then hit two home runs last night.

I know I like have facial hair. I hated my clean shaven days. I have one of those bony, bumpy chins. And every individual hair on my chin had it's own "against the grain". So, I had to keep hacking till I got all the hair. So, I basically would inevitably shave more skin than hair. (I guess I could have gone electric, but I never felt comfortable with that for whatever reason). Had a goatee for a little while. Now have had a full beard for over a decade (since the end of 1999 actually for the goatee, about a year later for full beard). I keep it trimmed regularly (though I sometimes get a little lazy in the winter). So, this looking like Cletus the hermit moonshiner* just down from the hills is still a bit much.

*And I can make fun of moonshiners, I live in a county neighboring a county with moonshine history. My dad even mentioned there was a rumored still down the road when he was growing up.
