The PR Campaigns begin....just read about how Texas is the front runner for Robi Cano's services.
Nevermind that they have Ian Kinsler, Jurrickson and just recently signed Andrus to a long term deal. This rumor doesn't even make sense, IMO."After my fourth season I asked for $43,000 and General Manager Ed Barrow told me, 'Young man, do you realize Lou Gehrig, a 16-year-man, is playing for only $44,000?' I said, Mr. Barrow, there is only one answer to that - Mr. Gehrig is terribly underpaid."- Yankees outfielder Joe DiMaggio

And also the Korean.
Girardi probably deserved manager of the year for the Yanks performance this season. He won't get it, but he deserves it.

It's a negotiation and I doubt the Yanks coming to the table with a 6Yr/$150M deal isn't going to get it done. Cano is the Yanks best player and the Yanks don't just let their guys walk. I wouldn't be surprised if this goes on for a long time. I'm hoping Yanks learned their lesson and they don't offer more than 7 years max. I could care less about the money, so long as it doesn't top $175M."After my fourth season I asked for $43,000 and General Manager Ed Barrow told me, 'Young man, do you realize Lou Gehrig, a 16-year-man, is playing for only $44,000?' That pitching staff was horrendous and and they had nothing coming down the pipe to look forward besides Roberto Kelly. I think the following year they got Steve Sax and Kevin Maas was a year later, but it would still be a terrible team for another couple years."After my fourth season I asked for $43,000 and General Manager Ed Barrow told me, 'Young man, do you realize Lou Gehrig, a 16-year-man, is playing for only $44,000?' Gardner is the best position player. And he is a 30 year old who relies on speed and defense. Soon to be in decline.
Nova may be the best starter. And he is at best erratic.
What players are on the horizon? Will the Yanks have any top 50 prospects next year? Sanchez can hit but may not catch. Sounds fwmiliar. Murphy sounds like Romine but healthier. Williams and Heathcott did not impress in the outfield. Neither did Austin. Bichette and Culver look like busts. Gumbs is maybe a decent player 2 or 3 years away at best. Pineda and Banuelos are both coming off of major surgeries.
Have you looked over the 2013/2014 free agents? Any difference makers there? We can't win in 2014. 2015 is not realistic either. By 2016 Cano will likely be noticeably declining. Take the hit. Rebuild.

Can one of you guys who is familiar with the farm system explain what the heck is happening? For years, I've been hearing about the talent at the lower levels - particularly how deep the Yanks are at catcher. Yet, next year, the Yanks will still need to find a free agent just to have an average catcher on the roster. The rest of the alleged talent is still playing A ball, as it has seemingly been for the past decade. Over the past ten years, they have produced two position players (Gardner and Cano), three if you count Jackson who does pretty well for the Tigers. Since Pettitte, they have produced one legitimate front end starter (Wang, who got injured) and one potential front end guy in Nova - although the jury is still out on him. They've had some success in finding relievers, but I'm guessing that most of those guys are failed starters. Meanwhile, the Rays just keep reloading. I know the Yanks usually get low draft picks, but this is MLB, not the NFL or NBA. Successful players are found deep in the draft. Heck, you would think the Yanks would run into one or more of them just by accident. This farm system doesn't seem to be capable of consistently producing anything outside of 4A type players. Even if they got a high pick in the draft, they wouldn't know what to do with it. Who is responsible for this mess?
