Mattingly goes 28-115 and comes up huge in game #163. Rickey steals 72 bases, hits 26 HRs and scores 114 runs. Winfield goes 24-102. Not much else to brag about other than those 3 guys.

Nice year for Jim Brewer with a 217 ERA. Messersmith (22-10, 3.09) and Sutton (18-11, 3.53) were excellent, but Downing, John and Rau all struggled. Zahn was good until that final game. Mike Marshall in 104 games just like real life.

Bob Shirley (10-5, 3.01) big. Rookie Brian Fisher (4-1, 1.38, 9 saves) with an immense season in relief. Righetti (7-4, 20 saves) excellent as the main closer. Guidry (15-12, 3.32) so so, but great in game #162. Cowley (4-17 3.94) with a real hard luck season. Niekro up and down, but came up huge in the final game. Whitson was in Billy's doghouse.

WOW The Giambi Bros came through. Yankee slugging really down. As you said, a bad day for them.

    1948 Indians get by 1919 Reds, 84-78.

This was a very even series with the Indians winning despite being outscored on the season. Cleveland was 28-23 in one run games.

    HTML Code:
Year Team W	L	Pct	GB	L10	Strk	RF	RA	Mgn

    1919 Cincinnati Reds 78	84	.481	6	3-7	L3	677	663 14
Another solid season for Boudreau at .308 with 101 runs and 83 RBIs. Keltner goes 27-90. Eddie Robinson goes 20-87, and Joe Gordon hits just .229, but with 32 HRs and 89 RBIs. Jim Hegan did not hit much, but he threw out 71 of 105 (68%) would be base stealers.

The Reds might have won the series if they never sent any runners. They were an awful 37% on steal attempts. I think that's the worst I've even seen for a team with more than 100 SB attempts. Jimmy Smith with 11 triples and 12 HRs in 126 AB. He slugged .817 and had 38 RBIs. In real life he had 3 triples in 40 AB. Rath scored 95 runs. Roush, Groh, Kauf and Daubert all had decent seasons.

Gromek (9-3, 2.49) was excellent in 122.2 innings. Christopher (7-4, 2.55, 14 saves) very good as the closer. Lemon (17-14, 2.85) and Bearden (17-7, 3.31) had very nice seasons. Feller had very bad luck, losing 22 games despite a decent ERA.

1984 Tigers coast to 91-71 win over the 1970 Orioles.

In a high scoring series featuring the DH in the games in Detroit the Tigers pulled away at the end to win by 20 games. There were a bunch of lead changes in the first half of the season, but starting on July 13 the Tigers won 14 of the next 18 games to open up a nice lead. Then they won 9 in a row near the end of the season to turn it into a rout.

Rettenmund very good at .292-22-71. Brooksy with 87 RBIs. Frank okay at .268-22-85. Buford with 101 walks and 102 runs scored. Powell only hit .249, but with 26 HRs and 100 RBIs. They scored enough runs to win, but the pitchers must not have done the job.

Trammell great at .328 with 95 runs. Gibson with 24-96. Parrish with 32-94. No one player carried the offense but they got good years from a bunch of less than full time players. A team effort.

McNally (14-14, 3.59) held his own, but Palmer (11-20, 4.34) and Cuellar (13-18, 5.28) got hammered. Cuellar gave up 319 hits and 45 HRs.

A team effort here too. Real life MVP Willie Hernandez did not have a big year (4.08 ERA, 24 saves) but Rozema (9-5, 2.66) and Bair (8-3, 3.27) picked up the slack. Morris with a good ERA (3.27) but just 13-12. Petry (18-9, 4.04) was the biggest winner.

Yes, he was humiliated that year, losing the first 3 games and then game 5.

Wood (22-13, 2.75) was excellent and the other starters were decent considering the team they were pitching against but the bullpen was horrid.

    ANOTHER HUGE UPSET!!!

    #9 seed 1954 Yankees take out #1 seed 1906 Cubs, 84-78!!!

This is turning into an exciting and unpredictable tournament as the 116 win Cubs have gone down to the 1954 Yankees in a very even series. The Cubs scored 10 more runs than the Yankees on the season. The Yankees were only one game over .500 in one run games. The key number seems to be that the Yankees were 16-10 in games that were tied after 7 innings. So far two number 1 seeds are out of the tournament before the regional finals.

The Cubs won the OPS battle .696 to .683, but they ran themselves out of this series, losing 142 baserunners who were caught stealing. Frank Chance hie .324 with 83 runs scored and 77 RBIs. Steineldt (.301) and Schulte each had 93 RBIs. Jimmy Sheckard scored 103 runs.

2001 Mariners roll over the 1921 Yankees, 99-63.

Mariners score 185 more runs in the season.

    HTML Code:
Year	Team W	L	Pct	GB	L10	Strk	RF	RA	Mgn
    2001 Seattle Mariners 99	63	.611	-	6-4	L1	870	685 185
    1921 New York Yankees	63	99	.389	36	4-6	W1	685	870	-185
Mariners got outhomered 194-135 and they still romped. They had a .346 team OBP, the Yankees were at just .316. Ichiro with 727 AB, 243 hits, 126 runs, 76 RBIs and 26 steals. McLemore with a .433 OBP and 93 runs. Olerud 102 runs and 96 RBIs. Boone goes 37-123. Cameron hit just .226, but with 24 HRs and 88 RBIs along with 93 runs. Maybe this team can win the championship they never got in 2001?

Nelson unreal, allowing just 33 hits in 89.2 innings. He did walk 77 though. Pineiro (10-1, 2.10) was great. Rhodes (10-5, 2.87) really good in 71 games. Moyer, Sele and Garcia were a solid top 3 starters.

The Yankees allowed 135 unearned runs Seattle just 36, the lowest total I've ever seen. Yankees with 185 errors, Seattle just 99. Yankees did turn a ton of DP's because the Mariners had so many base runners.
