Thread: Goodbye

I don't understand why people are so hyped on this Toronto FC nonsense. These people post this rubbish everywhere. Can't you come up with a better name.

O and starting this season Canada will have another team on the Majors : The Toronto FC of soccer.

If an outdoor stadium that felt like a ballpark would have been built in Montreal and new owners of the team would have invested much more money in players than was the case in Montreal for quite sometime, it could easily have turned out to be a good business decision for the Expos to remain in Montreal.

I seriously doubt that the vast majority of people reading this are remotely close to being thrilled that a major league soccer team is coming to a rival city of Montreal.

No soccer team on the planet can come close to replacing a MLB team.

This Toronto FC business annoys me. I don't like the way CBC has jumped all over it and is broadcasting their games across the country.

I feel bad trashing Soccer because of it's world popularity, but I just don't get it. And then there's the diving. Ugh

Hey Jeremy, great to have you back around these parts.

Now, OG, since you're calling Belleville home, I need to ask you the question that's on everybody's mind (and I know I'm off-topic, but really, I think the people have the right to know): Did you ever get to meet (meet, date, whatever) Miss Universe during her time in Belleville? BTW, you can lie if you want, we couldn't possibly call you on it, could we?

Now, for those of you who don't have access to the Belleville Intelligencer every day, let me tell the story real quick. Miss Riyo Mori, miss Japan, won the Donald Trump organized Miss Universe pageant in May. And just like our very own Ontarioguy, miss Mori has a connection with the city of Belleville Ontario. She studied at the local High School as an exchange student, graduating in June 2006. So for those of you scoring at home, she gratuated HS, 11 months before being crowned miss Universe. And there comes the part of the story that really cracked me up: No one invited her to the prom! There wasn't one soul in that High school who tought it would be better to go with her, rather than going with their buddies. Now, can you imagine how cool that would be, you just took a shot at asking the exchange student to the prom, out of sheer desperation, and you can spend the rest of your life telling everyone you meet that you went to the prom with miss universe?

I'd be banging my head against the wall if I was a member of the class of 2006 at that HS...

Sorry about that digression. But that's really my personnal news oddity of the year. And I tought I'd share that with everyone.
From now until the end of September, I'll be chronicling in real time on Twitter the 1946 season of the International league's Montréal Royals, when Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in professional baseball. Check it out: https://twitter.com/Royals_46season

I feel like I woke up in an alternate universe with all this soccer coverage on the front page of the paper.

Wow AG, you're really on the ball. Yes I talked about that on the air when it happened. Alot of people here knew her. The Intelligencer had a nice write up on her when she won. The reason she was here was because there's a highly exclusive Dance school just outside town. The students of this school go to one of the local HS in town. I actually met a girl from this dance school on a VIA train one day.

Sadly I never met her...It's too bad shes gone, this town lacks culture, it's about 97% white, or atleast it seems that way.

On the air? What air? Give yourself a plug, my friend. Is it available on the Internet?

For all of you who still experience sadness about our loss, know that you are not alone. My son and I still feel empty when we think about our beloved Montreal Expos.

I remember being at the Big O with my son, seated in row A, section 211, seats 1 and 2. We were there 25 times a year. We remember full well the last few years, and they were good to us. I remember that game when our beloved Expos were behind 8-0 against the Braves, and still won the game. I remember that magic serie in 2003 vs the Phillies, when 25 000 fans found their way back to the stadium. We swept the Phillies and found ourselves leading in the wild card race.

I remember those hot-dogs, those days after games when Omar Minaya stood in the alley leading to the rotonda and talked with the fans. I remember Orlando Cabrera autographing my son's glove. I remember Vlad smiling to fans in the bleachers and sending some baseballs over there too.

I remember my 2 daughters all smiles when Youppie came to our section. I remember Youppie taking my daughter in his big arms and hugging them.

I only have good memories about our beloved Expos.

    Thank you Rusty

    Thank you Claude

    Thank you Ken

    Thank you Larry

    Thank you Gary

    Thank you Steve

    Thank you Tim

    Thank you Jeff

    Thank you Dennis

    Thank you Dustin

    Thank you Moises

    Thank you Pedro

    Thank you Brad

    Thank you Brian

For all of you, our most sincere thanks.
