Several years ago I read a fantastic book about the life of a baseball scout. I have totoally forgotten the title and the scout's name. Some specifics:
1. The scout played in the Cardinals farm system in the 1940s, I believe.
2. The scout commited suicide during the writing of the book and the author talks about it.
3. The book came out sometime in the early 1990s becasue I remember a reference to Nomar Garciaparra and he was in the minor leagues at the time.
Does anyone know the title of this book?
