    old games

    Hello Polo '57:
I am new to the site. I think it's fantastic. I love the history of the PG as well. To answer your question about what game I would want to watch, it would have to be the '51 Thomson/Branca game. Wow!
I wonder if anyone has home video footage from that game. Maybe they brought a camera into the stadium. I noticed on another posting that there was a few still shots of video footage from a game at the PG in the mid 50s. I believe they were sitting in the left field bleachers....section 33.
    Hope all is well!
    Mike

Maybe the Vintage World Series set of Yankees DVDs has it, sometimes they have more than just the World Series on it
Mythical SF Chronicle scouting report: "That Jeff runs like a deer. Unfortunately, he also hits AND throws like one." I am Venus DeMilo - NO ARM! I can play like a big leaguer, I can field like Luzinski, run like Lombardi. The secret to managing is keeping the ones who hate you away from the undecided ones. I am a triumph of quantity over quality. I'm almost useful, every village needs an idiot.

I just watched it, there is two and half minutes of footage just from that game. I was very fortunate to get the FIVE-dvd Yankee set from ebay for nineteen bucks

    Home movies

I am referring to game 3 of the '51 sudden death playoff series when thomson hit the HR off Branca in the bottom of the 9th. The Giants win the pennant!!
Is there 2 1/2 minutes of home video from THAT game, or from the world series against the yankees?

My great uncle was at game 7 of the 1960 WS, I would love to see or even hear that game.

I think just about any game would be fun to hear - or see. I wouldn't mind just a regular season game between two bad ballclubs. If there were any from a really old park - like Baker Bowl - that would be interesting. Hmmm, I guess the other old parks from that era were all gone by the time radio came into being for public broadcast in 1920 - next to go after Baker Bowl would have been Braves Field, then Ebbets and the Polo Grounds.

Hearing teams like the Browns would also have been fun, since they dont' exist anymroe.l Wonder what the announcers said when Eddie Gaedel was sent up to the plate.

I am always looking to trade audio (mp3 format preferred) of classic baseball games - anything from 1934 to 2008. My most recent recordings are the games played in Beijing the last couple of days. Please, if anyone is interested in trading, I can be reached here or at nineworldseries@aol.com

    Miley Collection

You can order old games on CD (original radio broadcasts) from John Miley at vendiamo.com We have over 100 available now, from 1934-1971, and we're adding more every week. You can email me for the complete list: mark@vendiamo.com Please put "Miley Collection" in the subject line.

To answer the questions above regarding the 1956 World series Game 5 (Larsen's perfect game), the owner of the film is/was Doak Ewing, raresportsfilms.com. He has all but the first inning or two, and he does a beautiful job restoring old film. I do not know if it is available for purchase, but there have been some showings of it. And, again I'm not sure, but he may have sold it to MLB.

I don't know all the details, but one of the editing jobs done on it inserted interviews and so on between the innings, which really breaks up the presentation, I've been told.

Anyway, sorry to be so unclear about it but I can assure everyone, it does exist and it's been restored by the best in the business.

I saw the film of Larsen's perfect game on TV recently. Don Larsen watched it in the studio and was interviewed. He said it was the first time he had ever watched his perfect game. He mentioned that near the end of the game he realized he was pitching a no-hitter, but didn't realize he was also working on a perfect game too.

After the last out Larsen walks off the mound and is heading for the dugout when Yogi intercepts him and jumps on him.

Heck, if we're selling audio CDs, can I sell my DVDs?

So how many games do you have?

I've been able to listen to a lot of classics like the Mickey Owen game, the Shot Heard Round the World, the 49 pennant clincher, World Series games from the 1930s and many games from the 50s-60s but there are plenty of games I still wish were available. It would be nice to listen to game 7 of the 1946 World Series, the entire 1947 World Series, the 48 AL playoff, the final game of the 56 World Series, more games from the M&M boys chase of Ruth in 1961 and the 64 NL and 67 AL pennant races. It also would be nice to hear more from announcers like Russ Hodges, Arch McDonald, Waite Hoyt, Dizzy Dean, By Saam, and Jimmy Dudley. There is very few broadcasts before the 80s from the Braves, Astros, Padres, Brewers, Twins, Rangers, and A's announcers. Before the 70s, most games available are from the Mets, Yankees, and Dodgers announcers along with a few from the White Sox, Cardinals, Angels, Giants, and Tigers. Almost nothing from the rest of the AL and NL teams.

I have some of those tames...

But I'd love to add some more to my collection--

What do you have, and maybe we can swap...I have mp3s of games from 1936-2011, with the latter ones taped off the call or, in the case of Vin Scully and the Dodger games, the TV audio feed (because listening to Scully for 9+ innings on the full TV call beats just 3 on the radio adn then over to the Dodgers' radio team...)
"Ya Gotta Believe!" -Tug McGraw ... "How we deal with death is at least as important as how we deal with life." -James T. Kirk ... "When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." -Sherlock Holmes ... "It is out of the deepest depth that the highest must come to its height." -Friedrich Nietzsche ... "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." Hamlet
