Going from memory on this one, if I recall correctly there were about 13 seasons 40 or more home runs in the 1980's decade.... and 16 or 17 in one season(1996) in the 1990s decade.....................a decade compared to only one season in the next decade...............

True, but thats pitting a bit of a spin on it imo. Your numbers can be looked at in this way as well. In the small PED window, 50+ was reached a whopping EIGHTEEN times. At the current rate (50+ frequency during the last 10 seasons) it will take THIRTY YEARS to equal the 18 achieved during rampant PED use.

Sure was a crazy time when SS and 2Bmen were hitting 50+ and 40+ respectively. Who would have thought that those guys would be leading their team (if not the league) in HRs? I know Hornsby hit a ton for a while in the '20s, but that era has it's own thread discussing that insanity. I used to think Rico Petrocelli was really something for his 40 HR as a SS, but then A-Rod started hitting 50+ a year. Kinda drowns out what Vern Stephens, Rico, and Cal Ripken had done previously.

What you say is not free of spin. 12 of those 18 50+ homer seasons were done by just 4 players.

Ubi.... They were 4 juiced players, but in the spirit of good discussion and to try to indicate I do see other sides of the spectrum, I type as genuinely as possible --- "fair point."
