does anyone know the pms (color) number of brooklyn's blue and also the white?
i am trying to source the actual colors used by the club. thanx.

I would assume that "back in the day" the colors might have varied slightly. Who knows if the blue of '38 was exactly the same as the blue of '55 or the blue of 2005 - they all look like identical jerseys and colors (sans the '52 red number) but who knows for sure. The Colts changed their blue this past season because they said over the years the color had gotten a couple of shades darker and they wanted to restore the original blue. To the untrained eye it seems to be the same color - it's very subtle change. Perhaps the Dodgers color has changed over the years too.

You're right on this one Elvis....plus you understand of course digital technology (photography, cable tv etc.) is so much better today that we can all see it.

In the 1950's when the Brooklyn Dodgers televised their games, there was no colour television, there were colour movies showing the colours or when we went to the games, we could see what we could see with our own eyes or we could buy baseball caps, don't know about licensing fees then of course...

One thing though...the Brooklyn Dodgers were never called "blue" or whatever....they were often called in tabloid (and there were plenty of them then) the Flock (don't know where that came from), the Brooks (I'm not old enough to remember the Robins for Uncle Will Robinson)...

The team on the West Coast masquerading as the Dodgers call themselves Blue and talk about Blue tradition....

OUR BROOKYLN DODGER team colors were simply referred to as ROYAL BLUE and WHITE!

Dodger skipper Tommy Lasorda was responsible for the whole "Dodger blue" thing. He started it and it's now an engrained part of the Dodgers solely because of his constant boyish enthusiasm on the subject.

"royal blue" comes in four dozen shades, white, more than 2,000.

i am looking for either the pms or rbg of the brooklyn dodger colors.

There probably isn't an answer, every batch was probably different.Each year the Sporting News, in their opening day edition would publish all the uniform colors for each team and any differences, from the previous year.They didn't specify the exact shades however.

Remember back in those days, the uniforms towards the end of the year may have been a bit more faded that they were on opening day. The materials used were much different and the whites were not as white as they are today due to the double knit fabrics used since the 1970s.

Also as afar as color shades, remember one third of all males are color blind or color weak, so subtle differences definately would not be noticed.

Anyone know when the Dodgers went to their classic uniform style, with Dodgers name in script across the front, solid blue hat and stirrup socks? I saw a picture of Ruth, when he was a Dodger coach in that uniform, which was the late 30's, I guess, and every picture I've seen of Durocher with Brooklyn he always was in that style uniform. It's a great look and they have made very few changes to it, except the big one of putting the LA instead of the B on the cap.

To answer your question, 1938 was the year the club introduced the current blue color and current Dodgers script. In that year (The year Ruth was a coach), the home unis had a white cap with blue bill and blue and white stirrups, while the road unis had solid blue caps and stirrups. In 1939 the home caps went solid blue and so did the sox.

1945 was the last season the road unis said "Brooklyn".

1952 the red numeral was added to the home jersey.

1958 the red numeral was added to the road jersey.
