i still think petite and oswalt pitch the same on their starts regardless of the fact Clemens pitches the next day. hopefully they have backe pitch like he has in the playoffs, and the young guys step up. I don't think they will commit any more salary to pitching, even more so if they are anticipating another big salary to sign Clemens.
Bagwell is getting payed either way, the astros signed him to a contract. Do you expect him to retire and leave money on the table. (I think McGuire did something like this) well I think he would if he starts and realizes he can't do it. however he has spent a year recouping and working back from surgery so he can try to play again. He doesn't want to be forced out without that chance. Not with the career he has had.
To those who think he should do what is best for the teams chances at winning. Well, the Astros have played their hand they want to call him unfit to play prematurely. All in the spirit of moving Berkman to first and adding an offensive power hitting outfielder, two things they have sorely needed the last couple of years.
Why would Bagwell after knowing their intentions step up and say thanks guys for giving me, the face of the organization, a chance to come back from surgery I had after shutting myself down(for the good of the team)... never mind I quit, stop paying me, I hope you guys are better without me.
I am torn as a fan between what will be a better team without him and seeing a role model and team leader go down without a shot. Maybe I should see baseball more as the business that it is. but the kid with the rainbow bagwell jersey(with the mustard stain from my dome dog on it)and former Astrosbuddy member wants Bagwell to be given a shot at going out a little better than this.
