Countdown until Pitchers and Catchers Report

    http://www.sportsline.com/mlb

In the middle, you'll see in blue a countdown bar showing how much time until life begins. Until then, let's try staying sane, despite there being a lack of baseball here. Does anything else matter?

Just look at the top of CE, since it's now "stuck" like glue.

Can you copy paste the countdown part on your first post?
Then it would merit a sticky!

You could, but it would be stuck at the spot it was left at when it was copied. A script is updating the clock on that site that can't be copied.

    Where are the aging stars?

Only 36 1/2 more days until the countdown ends, and I'm already chomping at the bit. HOF announcement is scheduled for this afternoon, the WBC looks like it might blow up in Slug's mug, and trade rumors are still being bandied about the league. My main concern at this point, though, is when will we start getting the retirement announcements from the free agents that nobody seems to want. I know it is a crappy way to go out, but I don't see much hope of any team signing some of the more high profile veterans like Sammy, big Frank, Raffy, and even Nomar and Jr. will likely not be playing until May 1, and even then at a highly reduced salary. Has anyone heard or feel differently?

    Counting Down

Its a ridiculous 54 degrees today, left work a little early,trash-man still hasnt picked up my christmas tree...Spring the dog loose from home confinement, kids are not home from school yet,Inspect the back yard, for the ravages of winter,Find the whiffle ball, and bat that my daughter left in yard around labor day,Pick bat and ball up,and toss ball in the air, take a mighty hack, and a whiff that Reggie Jackson would be proud of.Try again, manage a feeble foul-pop,(but made a nice over-the-shoulder catch, which i immediatley dedicate to the late-great Elrod Hendicks.)Manage to make contact on swing three,a slow-roller to 2nd,which the Dog-fields as smooth as a Morgan-Concepcion double-play.The Dog(Rusty)LeGrande Orange, refuses to yield his prize, until a bird(Not a Cardinal,Blue Jay,or Oriole distracts him...Seize the ball, one more toss, into the January air,a good, clean swing, down the line in left, heading fair, neighbors yard,Just like Fisk, all over again

    31 days, 3+ hours.

Can't we just fast-forward to 31 days from now?

Oh, that clock ends at midnight. I'll probably be chomping at the bit until the morning tho.

Oh gosh, silver cars from guys who haven't been in the news (or at least newsworthy), but whose names keep popping up.

Bring back Willie Mays and Mickey Mantle, then we'll talk. Until then, it's Pitchers & Catchers time!

Ah, down to the last month. Dang, this offseason just keeps going, and going, and going....
Of course, I'm sure it seems even worse, now that college football is over, and there's not one team alive in the NFL that I give a crap about!

I downloaded Yahoo! Widgets and set up a countdown clock for Spring Training on my desktop. Now I can always see the countdown, sitting there in the lower right corner of my monitor. My productivity has drastically decreased.

Yesterday (ST Minus 23) it snowed here -- not a lot, a couple inches of soft sticky stuff, perfect for snowballs. I packed one, just the right size and heft, looked at the dumpster across the parking lot at work, and saw not the dumpster but the cut-off man, a runner rounding third, heading for home somewhere near the Battenkill River... I threw, and hit Dumpster the shortstop, who wouldhave of course then wheeled and thrown a seed to Locust Tree, blocking the plate, and everyone knows you can't get past a tree blocking the plate. (Needless to say, it was a slow day at work.)

ST Minus 22 today. Why is it still winter?

You guys are great. Helping me get all extra excited about everything baseball. From the WBC, to Spring Training, to Opening Day. I see they are now saying that players participating in the WBC can report to train on February 1st, so maybe we will at least start getting some stuff on SportsCenter or something soon.

By the way, I already put in for my floating holiday at work. I am taking opening Monday off...staying home & BBQ'ing while watching all the games on TV. And then that night, I am heading over to the Oakland Coliseum for the Yanks/A's game! Can't wait til April!!!

    Expos...forever in our hearts.

If ever there was a team that fought all the odds it was the Expos.
They had some great teams, but were always over-looked playing in a market where Les Habitants had more Stanleu Cups than the Yankesss had World Series wins.
With a little bit of budget, or a fat-cat owner like Stienbrenner they would have won it all.
Instead, in the year they were the best team in baseball the playoffsand the World Series was cancelled.
Tell me that would of happened in the Yankees and the Dodgers, big market teams, were headed to the fall classic.
Yeah I'm bitter, but I also remember the sweet times...Steve Rogers, old woddie Fryman nailing down saves, Rerdon and Wetland out of the pen....Rodney Scott taking his lead...Time Wallach and a gold Glove at third...Elis Valentine before a pitch broke his cheekbone, Tim Raines (better than Rickey but who noticed) and The Hawk in centre...and MVP long before Chicago.
The Randy Johnsons, and Pedro Martinez's of the world were traded keep the payroll down...for a bucket of balls and a promise...and you can sell then to DC and change their name...but the in the summers of 1977 - 80 the Expos were the sweetest moments of my youth.
To bad more people didn't pay to see them, and that Major League Baseball exploited them.
Wherever Bug Selig makes his case at the pearly gates, the first thing THE BIG GUY is going to say will be "Bud, explain what you did to the Expos!"

Any signs of spring in the air? The crack of the ball? The pop of the mitt after a pitched ball?

You know, carmelized popcorn + peanuts = Cracker Jacks.

Anybody here planning on going to spring training, just to take in a few games?

Not going to ST, but bringing it to Vermont....

Sometime in March my sisters and I will have our sixth annual Spring Training Party, with a themed cake, and lots of baseball talk and so on. I'm not sure what the theme of the cake will be this year, as Barbara is keeping it secret; last year's was, of course, the World Series trophy. The cake came out passably well... but the Wally the Green Monster cupcakes were downright frightening, not to mention inedible.

Sounds like a great time, Annie. Wish we could all be all there. If I might ask a teensy favor for nostalgic reasons: If by any chance you happen to be tapping, could you please let us know when the sap starts to rise? You'll understand. *sigh* Wish there was a smilie for remembering...
