You kiddin' Pete? Those pics are TREMENDOUS! Shoot, I'm 53 and almost feel like I attended my first game at Ebbets! haha Questions that now arise in my pointed head:
1. Wonder where the batting cage went when they weren't using it? Was there some kind of "secret door" in right field by the scoreboard?
2. Did Ebbet's have a "tarp" for rainy days? Or was that an item that came about years later?
3. Do you happen to know what year these 12 pics were taken? I think I saw Hodges in the batters box?
This is way too much fun! (grin) Hey, I have my families Dodgers scrapbooks from 1946. (Bless my mom's heart for taking time to cut out all the clippings, etc.) The pages begin with Spring Training (some team photos taking the field in Florida) and run through the first-ever baseball playoffs with St. Louis. The clippings are old and yellow, yet they contain some fun stuff. (I'm starting to understand why Leo was called "The Lip.") I may begin a new thread in 2008, starting with the '46 Spring Training, and add to the thread as the season unfolds. I might learn more about my dad's brief stint by doing that, since Brooklyn fans with more knowledge that me could provide valuable info that I don't possess!
Great job pitching the photos, Pete. You get an "attaboy!" for your hard work! ;c)
