You kiddin' Pete? Those pics are TREMENDOUS! Shoot, I'm 53 and almost feel like I attended my first game at Ebbets! haha Questions that now arise in my pointed head:

    1. Wonder where the batting cage went when they weren't using it? Was there some kind of "secret door" in right field by the scoreboard?
    2. Did Ebbet's have a "tarp" for rainy days? Or was that an item that came about years later?
    3. Do you happen to know what year these 12 pics were taken? I think I saw Hodges in the batters box?

This is way too much fun! (grin) Hey, I have my families Dodgers scrapbooks from 1946. (Bless my mom's heart for taking time to cut out all the clippings, etc.) The pages begin with Spring Training (some team photos taking the field in Florida) and run through the first-ever baseball playoffs with St. Louis. The clippings are old and yellow, yet they contain some fun stuff. (I'm starting to understand why Leo was called "The Lip.") I may begin a new thread in 2008, starting with the '46 Spring Training, and add to the thread as the season unfolds. I might learn more about my dad's brief stint by doing that, since Brooklyn fans with more knowledge that me could provide valuable info that I don't possess!

Great job pitching the photos, Pete. You get an "attaboy!" for your hard work! ;c)

number4: thank you so very much for your generous comments. i try to post photos that folks haven't seen before. the "run-of-the-mill" pictures of the "boys of summer" that have been seen for years, i try to avoid. i'm glad you enjoy them, as i have a lot of fun posting them all. i have trunks full of old dodger "stuff", many of it photographs. closets full of jerseys, jackets, caps, yearbooks, scorecards, etc. it's a pleasure to share some of the articles with true brooklyn fans. i truly appreciate your taking time to give me such wonderful feedback.

You really had me thinking about this one, Todd. I believe it was rolled out to centerfield where there was a roll-up door. It was kept in there after balling practice.

    2. Did Ebbet's have a "tarp" for rainy days? Or was that an item that came about years later?
WE did indeed have a tarp to cover the field for rain or sometimes snow. OUR ground crew was headed by the Uncle of one of our sister Debs. Uncle Joe was his name and he and his crew could roll that thing out (and back) in record time.

I have, or have seen, many of these great photos. The majority of them I would say were taken in 1951-1953. The exceptions are those of Roger Craig, Don Bessent, Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax, which were taken 1955-1957. Then there are some taken in 1940's.

You are certainly right, Todd, they are so much fun to look at.
