    m9

my m9 broke, its weird because the 2 other broken bats of the night were m9s. i hit my ball pretty well too. hopefully i just got a dud. it sucks i used my pro maple from last year the entire season, in batting practice from june all the way to march, and that thing was a champ. i might be done with the louisville maples because of the new 90 dollar price. its just too much. i wish that the m9 was just another version of the maple and yall kept the 60 dollar pro maple.

Where are you buying $90 maple bats?

Never mind, did a search and answered my own question. I never knew they were that much.

That is something we can't help, we don't tell the stores what to sell them for.

    Where to buy?

Okay, I'm gonna be a big pain in the neck, and ask one more question of BMH. I just found this site, and have stayed up half the night reading all the fascinating info. I'm really interested in all the inside info about Louisville. My question is, does anyone know where I can get some 1XX ash. I swing a C271, and I don't care for maple, it feels dead to me. A friend's brother was playing AA ball and ordered me 6 bats a couple years ago through the team, and they were the 1XX MLB Timber. I loved them, and just broke the last one I had yesterday. I can't bear the thought of going back to the 125 stock. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance. Just as a somewhat interesting aside, I'm a logger in Northern New Hampshire and we cut a fair amount of ash here. I've sold logs from time to time to Adirondack/Rawlings. They advertise in some of the local trade papers, and pay quite a bit more than the local hardwood buyers. I've never seen Louisville out looking for wood though.

It was decided the best way to handle quality control of our timber was to harvest our own in 1957. We have our own land in Penn. and upper NY that is logged by contractors for us and processed in our own mills. Up until last year we actually supplied timber to most of our own competitors through third party brokers.

Our mills go under the name of Larimer and Norton Inc.

Isn't LS selling cheaper maple bats this year that are stamped "hard maple"? I haven't even seen the M9 bats anywhere around here yet, just some that basically look like the M159s that I bought last fall. Think that they're still around $60, just like last year.

Do you happen to play in the Granite State League?
I used to play for the Hudson Rockies before they moved to Bedford (and are now 40+, I think).

As a matter of fact I do play in the Granite State League. The Rockies haven't gone over 40, but they have moved again, as of this year they are the Hollis Rockies. Hudson has the Broncos now, and they play at Alvirne. I play for the Lincoln team, so we have lots of traveling to do, but I love it.

Thanks for correcting me! It looks like most of my old teammates are playing in a 38+ league as the Bedford Mets. There wasn't a Lincoln team when I played, but I do remember those long drives to Ashland, Laconia, and Methuen. I stuck with baseball for one more season (4th in the GSBL) after my daughter was born and then had to give it up as impractical. It kills me that there's a 38+ league using wood bats right when life doesn't give me time to participate...but, I'll be back someday! Softball will have to do until then.
Best of luck to you for a great season!

  11. Being that I run a small bat company, this was a very interesting read. Just found this website a little while back and have really enjoyed reading all the posts.

I am located in North Carolina. I also coach college baseball, so bat making is something that I really enjoy doing and helps me make a few extra dollars. For me it started as a hobby, making bats for our players. I got good feedback from those guys, so I decided to turn it into a small business. Most of my business comes from college players, adult leagues, and high school programs. Just recently, I have had many orders from youth leagues wanting personalized bats for their kids end of the year gift (replacing trophies). I have begin to investigate the process of having my bats approved by MLB, but it is an expensive and lengthy process. However, I have had some of our local pro guys use the bats in order to give me feedback, so its been a blast.

Cool, I must say I really enjoy making bats. Well, at least designing them. Our union prevents me from turning them very often.

You should go for the MLB approval. Our reps were talking to St. Louis's equipment manager yesterday and had some news. Sam has raised thier prices on Maple for MLB to $90. St. Louis cancelled all their orders for Sam bats.

  16. Wow. I guess even MLB teams have to draw the line somewhere.

    Great thread

The more I learn, the more I realize how very little I actually know about some things. With so few familiar products still made in America, it is great to know our baseball bats are still being grown, cut, turned and produced right in our backyards. A big tip o' the cap to all; it has been a while since I read a thread in the 101 section. BTW, I have an old 1972 Dick Allen signature model that weighs no less than 37 ounces, and I can't imagine how anyone could swing that monster against MLB pitching.

We have to rush a lot of orders all the time. If we have the timber in house and no machinery problems we can usually turn an order around in two days for Pro orders. That's why our bat manufacturing has stayed in the states. You can't service the customer very well if your wood bats are being made in China.

What an awesome bat to have! Is it really one of Allen's own bats?
I've seen pictures of Allen without a shirt on, and it helped me understand how he could swing a bat like that...amazing that the man never lifted.
Don't forget that Ruth and others used bats over 50 ounces at times!!!

I have found a new wooden bat company that is fantastic. They are called Pearson Bat Company. www.pearsonbats.com They are from Southern California and I got some of their bats at a tournament. Their workmanship, and quality is supurb. They make both maple and ash bats. I've tried many other bats before, and these guys are the way to go.
