Rear elbow question?
I have been reading this board for 3-4 months (yes I have ordered Steve's dvd's) and I have read bits and pieces about the "back elbow up" - I believe I am starting to understand thanks to the video clips and various threads that this topic has been discussed.
I am having a hard time explaining it when I speak to other coaches and parents. Can anyone here explain the position of the rear elbow and why all of the good hitters have it "up" - I was in a discussion tonight and though I can visualize it I had a hard time trying to put it into words.
The main argument against the rear elbow up in my discussion was that young hitters will be long to the ball and ultimately get "underneath" the ball. Though I disagreed I was not communicating my reasons well enough.
I realize you could probably write a book about this but if anyone can give me a brief yet concise explanation I would appreciate it.
Thanks for your help in advance.
