Brandon Fahey was unavailable Sunday after injuring his right hand Saturday.
Fahey hurt the hand while sliding into second base and it's been diagnosed as a sprain. Manager Sam Perlozzo said Sunday that Fahey will probably miss "a couple days."

That's not good news. We sure could use a .286 hitting outfielder with 2 doubles to fill in right now.........

Orioles placed LHP Kirk Birkins on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 30, with left elbow neuritis.

Birkins had given up seven runs in his last four appearances, taking his ERA from 3.07 to 4.94. Julio Manon will replace him in the bullpen.

David Newhan (leg) is expected to begin baseball activities on August 4.
Newhan has been on the disabled list since April 19 with a fractured right fibula and could begin a minor league rehab assignment relatively soon.

Kris Benson could go on the disabled list after experiencing a setback while throwing on the side Tuesday.
Benson, who had hoped to pitch against the Yankees this weekend, is still feeling pain in his elbow. "It didn't go as good as he had hoped," manager Sam Perlozzo said. The Orioles are currently planning to start Bruce Chen again on Saturday.

David Newhan's rehab has been delayed a week after he said he wasn't 100 percent ready to start baseball activities.
Newhan (leg) was scheduled for a doctor's examination this week to determine if he was ready to begin working out with the Orioles and start a rehab assignment. He's out indefinitely.

Maybe Newhan should just wait until next year. Fahey is doing a nice job and any reaccurance of his injury late in the year might end his career.

Fahey is doing a great job. I hear Palmer say today that because of the weird schedule with Toronto that Miggy might DH one day next week and Fahey might play short.

Let me tell you Fahey can do it all, he's a great utility player. Didn't even miss Gomez.

Fahey is turning into quite a good defensive outfielder too. Playing multiple positions will only increase his value to the team. He's been one of the nice surprises this year.
