Yes it is after the raises. The salary situation was a problem, but, yeah, it has gotten much better.

    Hi everyone,

I know this is really crappy of me, but I'm going to have to step down before I even really got started. I wish it didn't have to be so, but I'm realizing that I have a lot to learn about my team and about how the league works, and the time just isn't there like I thought it would be. So for the good of the league, I've decided it's best that I step aside and let someone who will be able to better participate take over Nails' Quakers.

I am deeply sorry for the late notice of this. I really wanted it to work out, but as deadlines approach, I'm losing confidence that it will work out. Thanks to everyone for extending a warm welcome and a helping hand - it's made this decision even more difficult for me.

    Take care,

    Mike

--Guys, we need to get an owner for this team really quick. We can extend the non-tender deadline for the Quaker/Avengers up to drfat day, but still only gives somebody 2 weeks from today to get ready for the season. Thats a tall order for somebody unfamiliar with our league. If we can get someone at least familiar with Diamondmind (particularly someone who has the program so I can transfer the league file to them) that would be very helpfull. If you have any candidates contact them TODAY.

Creative Accounting 101. I think they used to call that "cooking the books".

Just kidding, Chris. You've done a great job reducing payroll and keeping an extremely competetive team on the field.

    Team still available?

    Mark,

I'd be happy to take over the vacant team. I sent you an email earlier today and had actually asked to be put on your waiting list back in January. I'm in 3 "all-time" leagues (one ran by Scott of the RedBirds).

I wouldn't have any problem meeting any of the deadlines.

    Thanks for consideration,

    Joe Clark

    OK then--welcome aboard Joe!

And, Happy B-day Dude... if I was in your neighborhood I'd give you a handle of Finlandia. Oh--waitaminute--that would be a cigar, sorry.

DoubleX, is it possible you can take over the Senators then? You can take the season to learn about managing the team and then get your expansion franchise later.

OK, The Skipjacks are non-tendering: P Bud Daley; P Jim Golden; OF Al Luplow; P Johnny Podres; and 1B Pete Runnels.

No Skipjacks players retired this year.

After the PFA and trade, the Skipjacks stand at 34 players, $94.75 mil.

The rosters page has been updated.

--Welcome Joe. The Quakers/Avengers/whatever you want to call them are your team now. Did you get the 1963 league file? You'll need to update the team page in the roster thread with the appropriate raises for 63 and let me know which players you want to drop. The deadline for everyone else is July 6, but you can have an extra week to get up to spped if you need it. Just need to have that done before the rookie draft on the 13th.
--If you have questions you can ask here or PM me or e-mail me, whichever is most convenient for you. You will need to check in here though since this is where all the activity takes place and there will be no e-mail notification like in PAP2. I will e-mail the league file after every other series once games begin.

--With 5.25M for 6 players, I guess you won't be very active in the FA market. Maybe somebody who can't be there will let you spend their money .

Thanks. I'll go with the Shoeless Joe's. I haven't received the league file yet but will begin scrubbing my roster once it arrives.

Just so I don't make a rookie mistake right off the bat, the listed salaries on the league file are the 1962 salaries, right? If I keep a player his salary will be bumped up $250K...is that correct?

Players who were active in the 1962 season get a $0.25M bump. I'm not sure if that team file has been update to reflect 1963 raises yet; I know I did mine a couple of weeks ago. Welcome aboard! This is easily one of the most involved historical fantasy leagues in existance, and we really appreciate having dedicated owners.

--The salaries in the Roster Thread for your team have not been updated for 1963 raises. Every player who appeared in a game for the Quakers in 1962 is due a 250K raise, except for franchise player Bob Gibson (locked in at 12M as long as you keep him) and Frank Howard (signed to a 4 year 16.5M FA deal beginning in 1962). I'll send you the 1963 file and 1962 also if you want it.

Ok, I understand. I just received the 63 file and will start reviewing my roster.

    Thanks for the clarification.

--Jim, Al Smith is on a multi-year deal and not eligible for free agency. The process when a player in this status is your PFA is he is considered to have demanded a trade. You have until the day before the PFA auction to trade him. If you haven't found a trade by then he goes on waivers for 24 hours, where anyone can claim him and assume his contract (worst 1962 record gets him if multiple claimants). If no one claims him you keep him. Most likely that means he is still a Diablo in 1963 .Y
--You probably have a better chance to move him than the other player in that staus - The Hard Cider owe Willie Davis 10.5 for 2 more years. Kind of pricey for a good glove, weak bat outfielder. Somebody with lots of extra cash (like you!) could mess up Mac's master plan by claiming him though. Chances are he could be dumped in the expansion draft next season.

Joe - Welcome to the Classic Keeper League. I think you'll find that this league has a really great bunch of owners, and a camaraderie that is the best of any league I have been involved with (sorry, Scott; PAP2 doesn't seem to have the back-and-forth of the Keeper League, but it's a lot of fun in it's own right). The league has a website, with links to the rules, league history (encyclopedia) and individual teams. You may not use it as much as the other owners who don't have the game to use to check stats, usage, etc. The website is HERE.

Good luck (except when you play the Legends). Your team is in my division, the Hulbert. BTW, I have the Wieniedogs in the PAP2 league.

Oddly, I counted Smith twice as a deduction, so that accounts for two of the three differences. The other is Fred Newman; I don't have any record of having had him, and I looked through the 1962 draft and FA lists to see if I just skipped over him, but I couldn't find any record of him ever having been on my team.

--Not sure how you got him either. He does have a couple nice seasons ahead though. Keep him or drop him? Barring evidence to the contary I assume he'd be a minimum wage man.
