    11 Alive

Do you guys remember years ago when channel 11 called itself "11 Alive" and they carried the Yankees games?

They had an ad for their Yankee coverage with a jingle that went something like this:

    Hey look at that shot
    They got it really groovin'
    Knockin' that horse-hide ball out
    Those Yankees are alive!

Anybody remember that? Did I get it right?

Channel 11 carried Yankees games from at least 1951 until recently.

Channel 9 carried Brooklyn Dodgers games until they left.

Channel 9 then carried Mets games.

Yankees games were also on Channel 5, WABD, in 1951. Yes, the games were carried by two stations at the same time.

Today, Channel 9 and Channel 5 are part of the same conglomerate.

Today, WCBS Radio 88, WFAN Radio 66 and WINS Radio 1010 are owned by the same conglomerate.

In 1977, the Yankees were on 1010 WINS.
In the 1950s, the Yankees were on 1010 WINS.

The Brooklyn Dodgers were on 1050, WHN and/or WMGM radio.

The New York Giants were on WMCA, 570.

For a while, the Yankees were on WMCA, 570.

Despite all the changes over the years, it is so strange and upsetting for the Yankees to be on Channel 9 and for New York's other team to be on our station, Channel 11.

Yes, and they had a guy who did the sports named Jerry Gerard who made pretty much everything funny.

Channel 11 was known as WPIX back then. I'm not sure what they're known as now, but I remember that the Yanks bolted for MSG, so with the Mets on Channel 9, WPIX grabbed them, leaving Channel 9 w/o a baseball team.

I'm guessing that's why Cablevision, owned by the same Jim Dolan as who owns Madison Sq Garden, the Knicks, Rangers and Radio City Music Hall, had a serious 1-year beef (ended moments before 2003's first pitch) when the Yanks created YES.
