Thread: Pitchers who were good at getting hitters to hit into a DP

Pitchers who were good at getting hitters to hit into a DP

Is there a statistic that measures this?

Which pitchers were the best at getting hitters to hit into a DP? For some reason I remember Dan Quisenberry and Greg Maddux as pitchers who were pretty good at getting a DP when they needed it. I just wonder if there is a stat the would prove this.

PS: Does anyone have any good articles on the value of a strikeout from a pitching standpoint? IE: Is it better to have a strikeout pitcher or one who gets batters out via a groundball or get them to hit into a DP, etc.

It might be better to post this thread at the Statistics, Analysis and Sabermetric forums. They do show how many DP a pitcher has forced opponents to ground into.

I`ve been wondering about that for a little while no I highly suggest making another thread at the above mentioned forum

Greg Maddux is the best I've seen in this area.

Very few people realize the pressure." Dave Kingman

As of today, you'd be hard pressed to find someone who does it better than Roy Halladay.
