    Wow

What do u know, dempster blows yet ANOTHER game. i dont know why dusty keeps putting him out there, he cant control his pitches unless its 80 mph down the middle, thats when they actually hit it. he is just awful, i cannot put it any other way, and yes i know that the DP SHOULD have been turned but there is good old' ronny screwin things up again. this game wanted to make me vomit. you know u suck when the PIRATES beat u, the PIRATES.

yep. once ronny screwed up it was all she wrote. Dempster did his job, too bad the defense cant do theirs.

i dont know if he did his job, his job is to go through the 11th w/ no runs scoring, even w/ out the error he was in deep dog doo

Take a look at the Cubs pitching staff and tell me who the closer should be?? Not a great group of choices there. And to blithely ignore Ramirez's critical error on a routine grounder isn't exactly being evenhanded.

error in the 11th? is that the one where it bounced up and over him and he thought it was foul? (and the runner should have been at 2nd instead of 1st if he had continued running?)

ummm ya u didnt make any sense, that was not an error on ramirez, it was quite a difficult play as well. i would like to see you make that play, o and for the cedeno play, i guarantee i could have made a better throw than that

Yeah, I'm not too sure about ol' Ronny. I do like Theriot though. I think Dempster shouldn't be closing for us next year, but that's my opinion.

So you'd rather pay him 5 million to setup for us next year? Because it's going to be very tough to deal him this offseason. I wonder how he feels about starting again....

Ill pay him 10 million to sit on the bench. Today has changed me and I now believe that Baker needs to go. He should have had enough sense to put someone other than Dempster in there. Hes had 1 bad streak earlier this year and that could have been a fluke but now another one. He 1-7 for crying out loud.

Exactly, we need a starter bad, but how effective would he be now days? Then we would have to go get another stopper and those aren't exactly a dime a dozen, so who knows.

Relievers are a dime a dozen, and very often a dominant one with low peripherals can hack it as a closer. At least as well as Dempster, and other midlevel closers. Personally, I think Wuertz can do it maybe not immediately but in the not so distant future. In Mikey's second go around this season after his callup in late July, he's appeared in 22 games, going 23.1 IP, giving up 18 hits, 4 er, 1 hr, 8 bb, 26 k, 1.54 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, .207 BAA

As for veterans we have, Howry could easily slide right in and take the job from Dempster for the rest of the 2006 season and all of the 2007 season. Only problem would be finding the guy who could eat all of Howry's innings if he made the shift.

    Kerry Wood for closer.

Trade Dempster to the Tigers, they're going to need a closer. So will the Indians, Reds, and Dodgers for that matter. Dempster is movable, especially if we absord some of his contract.

I kinda think Joel Zumaya will be closing for the Tigers before too long.

Relievers are a dime a dozen?? Did you not see the trades and rumors going on at the deadline this year? Everyone needed relief pitching, it was in shortage. Wayne Krivsky had to give up 2 good starters and a minor leaguer for a couple of bullpen arms.

I'm with you on this one. It would take alot of work off of his shoulder and allow him to be dominant for 1 inning at a time.

Reds have already had a go around with Dumpster, but then again, is his ERA below 19?
