1962-2006 All-Time Mets Team Poll

Another extension of the All-Time Mets Team thread, I figure a poll isn't too much of a reach. Probably could've been added to the original thread, but I'll just take it upon myself. (If they should be combined, that'll be fine.)

I've listed each position player in alphabetical order, and, in case one or more of your choices isn't listed, there's an "other" option for each position.

Feel free to vote for more than one from each position (especially pitchers), since I'm sure that all-in-all, the leaders will make themselves known in the end.

Chris Cannizaro, Jay Payton, Bernard Gilkey, Skip Lockwood, and Greg McMichael? Who cast those votes? And why? I remember McMichael as being second only to Mel Rojas as "worst Mets reliever" until Rich Rodriguez somehow came along...I'm also really surprised that Armando Benitez has more votes than Billy Wagner...have we already forgotten how awful Benitez was in the clutch?

I find the Benitez thing pretty confounding as well. That guy gave me more burst blood vessels than any other player in Mets history.

On the other side of the coin, I'd be interested to know the reasoning behind why at least three voters didn't give the nod to either Seaver or Hernandez. Perhaps it's stuff like this that shows why there'll never be a unanimous HoF inductee.

Wow? No Seaver 100%?

He has less percentage points on a team where he is OBVIOUSLY the #1 player, without a doubt... than when he was elected to the HoF.

Here is my favorite all time new york met. Marv Throneberry. i would have voted for him if he was listed in the poll. i love those 1962 and 1963 mets.

I was the one who voted for chris cannizzaro. i am a fan of the 1962 and 1963 mets which he played for.

Well, my Dad has also been a huge fan of the New York Mets from their infancy, but tells me that Cannizzaro was, while an average defensive catcher, a downright terrible hitter who contributed little if anything at all (his fluky 1964 season, where he hit .311, supposedly came from more fastballs being thrown to him...he only hit for above league average 2 of his 13 years in the Majors, and '64 was the only one with the Mets). Why name him to an All-Time Mets Team when you have Richie Ashburn, Frank Thomas, Jim Hickman, Roger Craig, or Al Jackson that could all represent the 1962 and 1963 Mets? Just because a player is a fan favorite doesn't mean you necessarily have to name him to an All-Time Mets Team (the name "Endy Chavez" comes to mind). My Dad was also a huge fan of Hot Rod Kanehl. However, my Dad said that he wouldn't vote for Kanehl to an all-time team when I asked him.

You have to remmber i was not the one who started this poll.i was not the one to post the players in this poll.i voted for who i wanted to vote for. and if marv throneberry was in this poll i would have voted for him also.I am a fan of the 1962 and 1963 mets who played at the polo grounds.

Dude, don't come at me. I neither agreed nor disagreed with your choices and made a point of stating that you're as free as anyone else to make your choices. I personally don't care who gets voted for. And to be fair, if your choice is not listed, there's an "other" option for your convenience. Did you use it? Evidently not.

Oh well...to each their own...I see Doug Flynn, Dennis Cook, and Braden Looper all got votes...I'd say those are all headscratchers, considering I can't see what nostalgiac value any of them would have. Not to mention Bob Apodaca (thanks for your part in ruining Generation K, Bob!) has two votes...I dunno, maybe him and his son...

Nobody here was attacking anyone. i was just pointing out why i voted for certain players. you need to chill out a bit.

Thanks. I also collect Mets photos as well as baseball cards. Chris' 1962 Topps card (as part of Dad's largely incomplete '62 set) was also the first 1962 Mets baseball card I bought. The first New York Giant I bought was Jim Hearn (1953 Topps...Dad's card was water-damaged) and the first Brooklyn Dodger was (perhaps fittingly) a 1953 Topps Jackie Robinson (we're not sure why...my Dad tried to store his cards in dry conditions whenever possible...but most of the '53 and '54 Topps sets suffered water damage...the '54 set has almost been completed, but we're working on the 1953 Topps set).

I got alot of my 1962 and 1963 mets photos from the baseball hall of fame. and i am always on the look out on ebay for new photos. i also have most of the 1962 and 1963 mets topps cards.i am only missing a couple of cards from these 2 years.
and i have alot of old mets games on audio tape from 1962 and 1963.i listen to them at least once a year.i enjoy having a hot dog and a cold rheingold beer when i listen to these games. a friend went to new york a couple of years ago and got me 4 cases of rheingold beer.i have had the beer in the frig and the beer still tastes okay after this long of time 2 years. maybe rheingold will start selling beer in buffalo which is not to far from detroit.
