Starting a High School Baseball Team

I'm tryin to set up a baseball team for my high school. The season is from mid-May to June. Has anyone here had experience in the other side of high school baseball? Have any tips to offer?

BTW, I live in Canada. And it wouldn't be a ridiculosly competitive team. We'd still try to win though.

Public High School. Preparing for the spring season doesn't happen until late november, however we (a friend and I) were starting to think about what to do. We might run the team, and have a teacher simply be a supervisor.

We would probably only be able to run one practice per week, and maximum three hours. Most of the guys on the team would be players who played in the past, but aren't currently on a team. What kind of things would you recommend that we do in practice? We shouldn't get too technical, but we don't want to look like fools out there.

Most public schools, at least here in the States require coaches to be certified. Starting a HS program from scratch without some experience coaching MS or higher would be difficult at best. I would have to imagine that the baseball in the Toronto area is probably pretty good and you may be getting in over your head. I might suggest starting with your athletic director and go from there. We use 30-40 conditioning, throwing, fielding, running and hitting drills. I am not sure what good it would do to list them here without having an understanding of how to manage and build upon them.

A few friends of mine are in the league, and it's not very good. My friend is the ace of his school team, and he is regularily our second baseman (on my competitive team). There is no certification required either. It is certainly not governed as strictly as HS Baseball in the states. Let's just say that there won't be scouts at these games anytime soon.
