I think no Giles and no Zito with his price tag. While a trade is possible, I also think we go into spring with Glavine, El Duque, Maine and a selection from the ST competition between Humber, Perez, Vargas and Pelfrey.

I wish it was April!! Or even Feb 15th would be good, too (pitchers and catchers report!)!
They need more starting pitching, but then again, who doesn't? Other than that, they have great positional players. I guess we wait and see.

They said the same about Darren Oliver...
"They put me in the Hall of Fame? They must really be scraping the bottom of the barrel!"

Ha ha. Oliver did have some kind of success in more than one season, unlike Sosa.

Speaking of which, didn't he go downhill after Leo Mazzone left the team? IMO, Roger McDowell, while a great guy, is not half the pitching coach Mazzone was. He also doesn't specialize in "project" pitchers like Rick Peterson. Dave Duncan of the Cardinals does too, I know, but I imagine he had his hands full with other guys like Jeff Weaver and converting Adam Wainwright into a closer and what-not. Not to mention, he got Sosa mid-season. The guy is not going to be a starter. He was almost certainly signed for the long relief role in which he'll be competing with (drumroll please) Dave Williams, Alay Soler, and Jason Standridge. The number five spot is more of a tossup between Jason Vargas, Phil Humber, and Mike Pelfrey.

when i look at the pitching i am very worried. let's hope that the young pitchers come through the was pulsipher, isrighausen were supposed to. with this staff what is really needed is reyes and wright to keep improving and come back years from alou and green.

"[come] through the way pulsipher, isrighausen were supposed to."

Apples and oranges. Dallas Green was probably the only Mets manager worse to his pitchers than Casey Stengel. Bob Apodaca was also a sub-par pitching coach. But now, we have Rick Peterson, a first-rate pitching coach, and Willie Randolph, who, for all his faults, listens to Peterson when it comes to his pitchers (something that Dallas Green was incapable of doing).

The Mets should be favorite to make it to the World Series especially when Martinez comes back. they're pretty much set. The regular lineup should be unchanged except for Moises Alou batting sixth and playing left. Glavine and El Duque will be the No. 1 and 2 starters as they were much of last season. Maine is likely to be the No. 3 starter. And so long as Sanchez is healthy, the bullpen assignments should fall as they did last year. The questions all center around the Nos. 4 and 5 spots in the rotation.

    Our Line-up looks like this

    1.Jose Reyes

    2.Paul Lo Duca

    3. Carlos Beltran

    4. Carlos Delgado

    5. David Wright

    6. Moises Alou

    7. Shawn Green

    8. Jose Valentine

We have the most explosive front, middle and low order lineup in the M.L.
My concept is too complex i leave them baffled...
