    When the snow comes down,
I think of the cool green grass
    on a warm June's night.

    Breaking haiku regiment
To wish you all some merriment
May your dreams of longed-for pennant
    End in a series, heaven-sent

Joy and peace are in the air
    Dice-K's stuffed in Sox with care;
'Tis a season filled with love
To imagine lineups, oil your glove

    Losses past are bygone hist'ry
    Next year's champs are yet a myst'ry
    Gone are curses, once infernal
    For even Cubbies, hope's eternal

    Spring's the antidote to Fall
The time of robins and "Play ball!"
As every season is a sequel
So Spring Training's but a prequel
When every team and dream is equal
And faith belongs to one and all

So on a note that's warm and cheery
I'll close these eyes becoming weary
And wish you all from far away
    The Merriest Possible Christmas Day!

    I don't even mind
When it's as awesome as this
    Thanks for the poem
Mythical SF Chronicle scouting report: "That Jeff runs like a deer. Unfortunately, he also hits AND throws like one." I am Venus DeMilo - NO ARM! I can play like a big leaguer, I can field like Luzinski, run like Lombardi. The secret to managing is keeping the ones who hate you away from the undecided ones. I am a triumph of quantity over quality. I'm almost useful, every village needs an idiot.

    7 AM Christmas Eve

    (An Ogden-Nash-ish Xmas Baseball Poem)

This ain't as good as Sandlot's verse
But not, I think, a whole lot worse
To Baseball fans here and a-broad
And all the players (even A-rod!)
    From Tokyo to Panama's isthmus
A grand New Year and Happy Christhmus!

(Okay, you try to rhyme "Christmas" before you have had any caffeine! )

To find a rhyme with famous locks
Is but a snap for Vt-SOX
Metred rhyme or verse that's free
    She decorates like Christmas tree
She churns it out I know not how
So c'mon Annie take a bough
And with a big grin sing with us
    Isthmus, schmisthmus,
    Merry Christhmus!

Thank you, Sandlot. I was going to try iambic pentameter, but find that's impossible before breakfast.

    Mustard on a dog,
    relish, onions, saurkraut,
    Hold the ketchup, please.

    Cold Coca-Cola,
    washing down yummy goodness,
    Dang! Spilled on scorecard!

    Should be more careful
    when writing baseball's scriptures.
    Shame on you, Elvis.

There aren't too many moments left today,
    For me to find a chance to steal away;
A crowd has gathered in the room I've left,
While here I dream of Spring and BBF!

    Annie must explain.
    Iambic pentameter?
    Surely hurts my brain
