This site is now a massive archive of all things PG (difficult to cross reference), and I know there are various LIFE pics in here; so, these are likely repeats, but if so, they're great repeats nonetheless.

Reposts or not--doesn't matter. There's no such thing as too many Polo Grounds pictures. Thanks for posting.

That Bring Back Willie photo makes me nervous. Look's like the rust is what's holding the place together.
Why the ads were removed from the outfield walls:

I brightened this pic up a bit
Are those...YIKES...wood planks on the catwalk? Sure looks like it!!!

I'd love to try my hand at building a 3D model of the PG like the numerous Yankee Stadiums in progress, but I'll be darned if the geometry of the place confuses the heck out of me, especially with one blueprint to go off of.
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.
doubt it, fire codes would prohibit it.
what looks like "wood" would be the pattern left from the forms used to create the concrete slabs.
the difference in tone is probably from moisture, that concrete rarely saw any direct sunlight.
after the 30's you'd find wood used in seat parts and parts of the roofs.

Wow, what a find!
And through the magic of some URL manipulation, some glorious larger samples from that site, with even larger versions by following the individual links.
BTW, 9/5/52, Friday day game, Giants win 5-4, with 3 in the bottom of the 8th on two HRs by Thomson and Hartung. Still left them 6 behind the Brooklyns.

Did anyone on here ever go to a game here in person? Would love to hear a story or two.

Awesome pics. Cannot get enough of this stadium. So intriguing.
Some nice zooms from above also.

This is ID'd as 1930s, but the housing project next to the Polo Grounds is at least partially finished. Must be the late 40s.

What great photos - thank you! It is a great pleasure to have found this website, and I hope to make myself useful.
Plate to plate and wall to wall distances. I always wondered; now I know.

Who's that??
Here is a photo of the New York Yankees hosting the White Sox, c.1916. My question is, why was the fancy decorative work overlooking the playing field covered/replaced?
In later years just a plain green look to it shows.
