    Sending a 8x10 ttm

Ok this may be a dumb question and I will more than likely answer my own question as I type but just wanted to clarify.
I recently obtained a price list from a former player. I sent him 6 bucks to sign 2 cards (he charges 3 bucks per card). On his price list I recall that he charges 5 bucks for a signed 8x10. I recently won on ebay a UNsigned 8x10 of this guy. How do I mail the 8x10 to him without it getting bent or mangled in the mail? Do I send it in a 8x10 size envelope, and fold another one in there for the sase? Has anyone done this before?
    Thanks as always!
    ~Tony~

Tony-Here's what I have done in the past for 8x10 photos that has worked well. The return SASE is a 9x12 envelope with 2 39-cent stamps. That along with the photo, letter, and some type of heavy card stock the size of an 8x10 and the photo go into a 10x13 with 89-cent postage. Both envelopes read "Photo-Do Not Bend". I've had good success up to this point in time. Hope that helps.

That's all that I needed to know. Thank you so much.

Is it rude to ask a player to inscribe something like :
    To Tony
    Best Wishes
    *They sign their name here*
I'll be sending out a few 8x10's tomorrow and am just curious.

    Ahhh that's cool!
I'm sending a 8x10 to Del Crandall and would like him to inscribe:
    To Tony,
    Best Wishes
    Del Crandall.
The 8x10 that I have of him is when he played with the Milwaukee Braves and he was about to make a play at the plate and the camera caught the shot when he just flipped his catchers mask off. It's a GREAT photo.

It's not rude to ask a player to personalize photos. Most actually prefer that due to the fact that it reduces the chances of the photo being sold on ebay and such.

I have an IP personalized from Jack Clark

And some others with a little something on the card Denis Savard (hockey) signed and personalized two Montreal Canadien cards one saying "To Corey, Best Wishes." The other "To Corey, good luck."

I don't want the player to think I want his best wishes. Feels embarassing.

Excellent point, I have seen a lot of people get failures from people that I have successes that were personalized (wow, I just wrote a wierd sentence, sorry). I usually just ask "If you don't mind, could you make it out to paul?" or something to that nature.

Well I am putting Del Crandall's 8x10 in the mail for him to sign today. I enclosed a fee of $8.00 (I couldn't recall if it was $5.00 or not). I bought on eBay last night a few unsigned 8x10's a exballplayers who are great signers ttm. Do you guys think I should send them a "small donation" of a few bucks just being kind enough to sign it? Or just send the 8x10 with no money inside? Whatcha think?

I think that all depends on the signer.... if they normally sign for free and are good signers, I don't see any reason to think they wouldn't sign your 8x10 for free as well.

I always preferred a personalized autograph. Baseball cards obviously don't have enough real estate on them, but 8x10's and magazine covers do, so I always asked whenever I presented a player with a photo. Most players obliged, some didn't due to time constraints.
I never asked for them to inscribe anything though, just simply asked if they could make it out to "to Dan."

AFAIK, Steve Dalkowski actually prefers signing 8x10's.

Well I received the unsigned 8x10's that I bought on eBay. I am going to put them in the mail on Monday. I am going to include a "donation" of 5 bucks. Whether the ex players accept them or not is up to them.

Well I mailed out to Ron Swoboda yesterday (saturday). I mailed him an 8x10 to sign, and I also included his fee of $5.
Monday I am mailing 8x10's to Gil McDougald & Mark "The Bird" Fidrych.
ALSO: When you guys mail 8x10's... do you get insurance on them through the post office? I do. Up to $50... it's like a buck or something like that.

I do have one question on sending out an 8x10. Do you send out two envelopes with the SASE being 9x12 and the original envelope being larger? Or do you just send out one envelope?
"The one constant through all the years has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game, is a part of our past. It reminds us of all that once was good, and what could be again."

Since I have started this thread I have gotten back 7 out of 7 8x10's. Here's what I do: I include the photo in a 8x10 plastic sleeve, my letter to the player, the 9x12 sase (with 2 stamps on it), and I stuff all of that into the
10x13 envelope. So if I am reading your question right... you send an envelope within an envelope. (So yeah, I hand deliver ONE envelope to the mail man at the counter) Hope this helps you out.

I work for one of the companies that tenders mail for the post office. We do 1600 pounds of mail every day. Of it, hardly any of it gets damaged or lost. But we're very good at what we do, and we don't sort.

I was going to post this as a "don't bother with insurance". But thinking about some of the other vendors USPS deals with....You should probably get it.

    Good point.
I normally get insurance anyways because a few yrs back I got a 5x7 in the mail that was damaged and the sase that it came back in was beat up looking and torn. Better to be safe than sorry I guess.

    True.

I had gotten a former Brewers pitcher (now a pitching coach with another organization) and he signed a blow-up copy of his '90 Fleer card for me. We actually chatted between innings of the AA game he was monitoring. He was telling me he usually doesn't sign things that are sent to him because of people selling them on EBay. I tell him he should just personalize things and that would practically guarantee it wouldn't get sold on EBay.

What I do is blow up cards to an 8x10 size on card stock and get them signed.
Man, do I *HATE* the Yankees!!!!!!

question about how to get started

I am trying to collect 8 by 10s of every Met ever. How do you get the addresses of the players? Is there a general place to find out who would sign TTM and who charges to do so? thanks Jimmy
