    Worst Strike Zone for Ump

Know this probably has been done a zillion times but I haven't seen a thread on it.

My choice is Eric Gregg. Not only was his strike zone big, it seemed to drift as the game went on.

Really waiting for BlueZebras reply since he made a living doing it.

No one can ever beat Eric Gregg's 1997 NLCS strike zone. No one.

Eric Gregg 1997 NLCS game 6 for Livan Hernandez. The worst excuse for a strikeout ever. If you ask me Gregg threw the game.

I'm moving this out of CE, and putting it in Between Innings for now, but it might go better in History. I'll see what the BI and History Mods think.

Well now that this is in Between Innings, what current umpires do you fans think have the worst strike zones for the upcoming 2007 season?

Which current ump's have the best strike zones for the upcoming 2007 season?

Ron Kulpa makes some horrible strike calls with his strange strike zone, in my opinion. He almost caused Pedro Martinez on June 22, 2006 to be ejected from the game with some of his missed calls! Another umpire with a random sized strike zone every game is Angel "I Hate the Cardinals" Hernandez. He annoys me so much with his anti-Cardinal bias.

So, I aint the only who agrees with that. I have never liked him out there umping. I forget the incident, but I know there was one where he made the stupidest call I heard of against the Cubs and since, it just seems hes had never been good at making calls. Funny, hes the only Ump i can name right now.

Eric Cooper had one of the worst-umpired games I have ever seen. Worse than Gregg's in the NLCS. However, it was just an interleague game between the Phillies and Orioles, so nobody cared.

The Astros were furious with Fred Brocklander in the 1986 NLCS, for his calls at 1B and behind the plate.

It's not just the Cards Hernandez hates. It's good and consistent umpiring that Hernandez hates.

Ed 'Bat Guano' Rapuano has a very ambulatory strike zone. He's one of the worst.

Bucknor, Hernandez, Rapuano and Dan Iassogna are just plain bad umpires, whether they're calling balls & strikes or anything else.

Fieldin Culbreth has been known to call a very tight zone, and to move a bit during games. More offense in his games than most others. Hirschbeck has a pitcher-friendly zone.

I've never been a big fan of Bruce 'Fat &%#$' Froemming, but I think he's been calling balls & strikes a little more consistently in recent years.

I was thinking of Angel to in that list. Think a lot of it is his name.

I forget which Umps get the praise from the announcers of the game. Sure that McCarver and Morgan have their favorites.

Oh god, don't tell me he's back for another season. I don't know about his strikezone but he's the worst at calling plays I have ever seen. Flipping a coin would be more accurate than having him call baserunners safe or out.
    Still lurks the BBF.

IMO, an umpire can call whatever he likes balls-and-strikes-wise, as long as he calls it consistently, and the same for both sides. What bugs me is when umpires go from one knee one pitch, then standing the next.
