this list has not been updated in 15 months. Duane has passed. Who else? And where is Jake Crawford?
and, moderators, is there a reason why we can't have this sticky and at the top of the list of threads? finally, can we get the list of living players updated and modified on the first post so that we don't have to scroll through four pages to find a current list??

Just saw Bob Turley and Don Larsen this weekend in NY. Larsen is selling his jersey from the perfect game in the fall through Steiner.

Jake Crawford may need to be added to this list: http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...rawfja01.shtml (SEE NEXT POST)

Is Mr McCurdy still posting? Has he passed? (I hope not) He was the mainstay of this list, I believe his original living Browns players list pre-dated all the other ones on the BBF now. If he has passed, another Browns fan with the interest and desire will need to pick up the torch re: updates revisions etc

I found this earlier in the thread re: Jake Crawford BUT..... Baseball Reference doesnt have a death date listed... so its anyones guess what the truth of this situation is. More research is needed.

EDIT: Did a quick web search to try and find an obituary, but did not come up with one

SECOND EDIT: Mr Crawford has a Wikipedia entry and it states that he died on 10-21-2008 as Mr McCurdy had previously stated. I know Wiki isnt always the best of sources, but it would appear, sadly that Mr. Crawford has indeed passed.

Calif_Eagle: the Crawford obit is posted on TheDeadballEra website. It is the right man.

    http://thedeadballera.com/Obits/Obit...Jake.Obit.html

Brownieand45sfan: my practice with the similar list on the Brooklyn Dodgers fourm has been to make it the last post in the "Where Are They Now?" thread (though occasionally other items go in there too).

I don't mind having a quick run through this list to see if anything else may have been overlooked.

Les Moss, who passed away recently at 87, was as good as they come for a #2 catcher. He stuck with the Browns/Orioles franchise for 10 years (1946-1955),which is an unusually long time for a reserve, which should show you that he was highly valued. Not surprisingly, when he got more playing time than usual, as in 1948-50,and 1953-55, he had his best years. He finished his career with the Chicago White Sox (1956-58). He hit .247 lifetime, but he had two peak years where he hit in the .290s.
He was given the Detroit Tigers manager's job for the 1979 season, but when the team got off to a slower than expected start at 27-26, he was fired about one-third of the way through the schedule, which was a shame. Moss never managed again. His replacement didn't do badly, however, since Moss was replaced by Sparky Anderson (HOF), who would be the Tigers' manager for the next 17 seasons (1979-1995) and bring Detroit a Worlds Championship in 1984 and a number of division titles.
