Another tough one. Bedard didn't do great, but didn't exactly get hit himself. Worked himself into trouble and got out of it. He created his own problems tonight and handle Boston, except Ortiz, with little ease. Not much can be done about that. Beckett did pitch 8, but he didn't exactly pitch good enough for the win.

This Oriole teams has been playing good baseball for a few weeks so we may have a good series going here.
The Sox will be seeing a lot more of the Orioles and the AL East over the next 2 months. They have a tough road trip to open the month, stopping at Seattle, LAA, and Baltimore. Things could very possibly get worse before they get better as they face a resurgent Mariners team and the always tough Angels. Even Camden Yards won't be a stroll through town.

But the Yankees are going to hit some real opposition starting next Tuesday when they visit Toronto. The Jays are far from out of it, so they won't roll over the way the D-Rays and the ChiSox have. What's more, after Toronto the Yanks have to face Cleveland, Baltimore (also not completely out of the WC), Detroit, LAA, Detroit again, then Boston comes to town.

Boston has already made it through the toughest part of their schedule and are still on top. I think we can look forward to them making some time in August and putting some distance between themselves and the rest of the AL East. By the time they see the Yankees again, New York will be lucky if the only thing they have to play for is an outside shot at the WC.

  3. The only good thing in Tuesday night's loss was seeing Papi hit a pair of home runs. For a while in the game, he had the only three hits for the Red Sox.

Losing to Bedard isn't the end of the world for us. He's good.
Papi seems to have found his stroke, at least.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't his homerun off Bedard his first of the season against lefty pitching? Not a bad statement that it comes off Bedard.

Yes, it is. Ortiz has been generally stumped by lefties all season, so finding his power stroke against a strikeout pitcher like Bedard is doubly promising.

Nights like this, against Trachsel, are when the offense feels terribly inept. C'mon guys, somebody drive in a run. And I'm officially fed up with Drew and his ailments. Get on the field, and get WMP on the bench. I'm done giving Drew the benefit of the doubt.

Well, its a win. A frustrating one, but a win nonetheless. Nothing flashy, nothing great.

Nice come from behind win tonight. Just what this team needed to get back on track after a tough night yesterday. Tough match-up tomorrow with Guthrie going for Baltimore and Wakefield pitching for Boston. Let's hope we can pull off a win in day baseball tomorrow.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, but I guess Drew's son had surgery, or something along those lines. Can't blame a guy for being away for that.

I had not heard that. If that is the case I obviously would never stand between a man taking care of his son.

I'll save my outrage for tomorrow.

I hate to sound negative after a good win, especially with the way Manny has been hitting but...
He seems to be awfully impatient lately.

Tonight he went after pitches early in the count and ended the inning. In the first he bounced into a double play on the second pitch and in the third flied out on the first pitch with two on and two out. I think the key to the offense, because they are not as prolific as in years past, is to wear down the others team pitchers and get into their bullpens.

Youkilis had another clutch hit and seems to be regaining his May form and four walks for Coco was great.

I hear ya! I've been P.O. d at Drew's poor performance too, but according the Rotoworld (link below) Drews son underwent surgery, so I can't fault him for missing a few games based on that.

But that aside, I think Drew hasn't been close to what I was hoping for. He hasn't been worth 10% of what were paying him. Just a major disapointment.

That being said, I'm still hoping he comes around and starts playing like he has in past years for other teams.

I am still not sure what the Sox obsession with signing him was. He has talent but his never lived up to expectations. Granted he has had some lofty expectations. The only hope I have is that he turns in on in August (he was good in April and June).
Does anyone know when he is returning, I would assume not until the weekend.

I think it was a deal with the devil! (Just kidding)

I believe it was dealing with Boras in helping to obtain Dice-K.

Yeah, Drew has always been known as a talented player, when healthy, but come on, he isn't worth what were paying him. Notice that no other team was after his services, at least none that I'm aware of. Why? Because he's injury prone, and while he is a good player when healthy, he's never been a superstar and certainly not worth 14 million a year imo.

I said it in the other post, I'll repeat here, I still have hope that Drew will come around and perform much better then he has so far.

I share your frustration with Drew, but I don't believe for a minute that signing Dice-K had anything to do with it. Boras had absolutely no leverage in the Dice-K negotiation. Signing him was a fait accompli after winning the bidding.

It could very well be that his spurt after the ASB has him more aggressive and then becoming aggressively desperate as he works his way through the slump. It happens. He probably needs to dial it back a little. The last thing we need is the kind of drought that A-Rod is having at the moment.

Mirabelli.. That was the most pathetic display of baserunning I have EVER seen.. Who gets thrown out tagging from third on a ball hit to the warning track in right center? I could've trotted home backwards and have been safe.

    He made up for it.

    Dougie went deep!

I'm assuming Pap will be coming in, but who knows, we might get to see Gagne.

it looks like Mirabelli's 3-3 performance has boosted him up over the Mendoza line

Nice job by the bottom of the order today. I have been critical of the bench but Mirabelli had a great day at the plate. Hinske and Cora also contributed. Good win.
Wake was steady again and Gagne looked good (cheap run) with his change of speeds and really working Millar.
