You are wrong. Most of these obstructions are avoidable. It's just poor design.

Maybe I should take that seat because most of the time I'm walking around the ballpark taking pictures anyway!!!!!

Lord only knows how many pictures of the "Iron Triangle" I'm gonna get from the area by the Wiffle Ball court...

Yeah, and even if you're at the seat, what's the big deal if you can't see home plate or 1st base? I mean if a player hits the ball down the first base line, just look toward the 2nd base bag to see if the batter is rounding 2nd and you'll know it's an extra base hit. If it's an out or single, chances are you'll find out eventually.

  8. Great work

Saltzy, excellent job. I don't mean to pester you with more questions; maybe someone else here has an answer. Did you notice anything about the seats near the LF foul pole? I saw a pic awhile back and all the seats were facing the stands on the LF side; not even remotely in the direction of the field. Also, I understand the idea behind angling the seats, but I wonder what that will be like to be sitting next to someone and having him or her looking at the side of your face. Lastly, in both NYS and CF, the field level seats along the foul lines in the outfield look to be generally facing centerfield.

some of those arent that bad the ones with staircases are but the other 2 arent that bad

Just tell us what section your seats are in and we will figure out what your investment is, and then we will let you know if you paid big bucks for an obstructed view.

Saltzy, since it seems you are willing to carry our banner again, I am fully with you. Always shoot for the top, and then it can trickle down. It rarely escalates the other way. (i.e when my parents HDTV broke and the local Walmart mgr blew them off, I contacted the CEO/Chairman of the board of the largest corporation on planet earth who personally made sure they had a brand new larger and better HDTV delivered and installed the next morning. All you have to do is hit the right buttons at the right time.....BTW I kept his emails)

  14. u shud send something to the mets too if u send it to the post

  15. I actually think people are freaking out a bit too much about some of these things. For one, the railings. There isn't a baseball park today that doesn't have them. Its just something you deal with for safety purposes. Maybe they could be a bit shorter but I doubt it. They're likely exactly at code height.

Really, the only thing I think that is truly objectionable is the LED. Its obviously a non necessity and its been placed too high in relation to the seats. I suspect after this year they'll lower it at least a foot, probably 2.

Also, while I'm not a fan of the exterior style stairs leading up to the Prom Res, they are quite common with the newer parks. And while must people feel comfortable with the tunnels, those too are obstructive - specifically for the people that are located directly in the line of sight of the stairs.

It will be interesting though to see how much people complain about the stairs once the park opens.

No...I still like my seat, and at this point I feel like its been mine for years already...besides, you really think wherever I move at this point will be an improvement?

I'm going ahead with it. I know I have 95% of your guys support, and thats enough incentive to get the word out as much as I can. Besides, when Gary D. tells you to do something...you DO it...capice?

To those that are A. insulting others that care about this, (a very very small minority) first off...(and in my 1,600 posts and from the furthest reaches of my soul) SHUT UP...I have certainly earned my cred on this board, and I was there...these seats are UNACCEPTABLE...when YOU lay out over $6k for a seat where you have to crain you neck to see home plate you can talk....until then...SHUT UP...

or B. say they arent that bad realize, that like some have said, these arent the cheap seats. If anything there is a premium on these seats...AND like I said in my FULL REVIEW...its not even how 'bad' they are, its how many there are. Its ridiculous and its gonna be an issue whether you think we're making it too big of a deal, or not...The team had had a full steam PR campaign for 3 years claiming how there wasn't an obstructed seat in the house...at the minimum that was a clear lie...

BMF, You mean the one on top of the Rotunda? Its in the video, otherwise the whole time was spent taking these pics...

  17. You just know that there are some Mets brass reading these pages and praying that Saltzy doesn't go to the press. I was on the fence about it because I don't love negetive press about the team I love, but if I had one of those seats, I'd BEG you to take it to the front pages. I say go for it. I like NYMfanChris' idea of sending it to Mets too, just to see if they even acknowledge you.

  18. Here is an example of Petco's railing.

This is what I think may be where all the complaints are coming from. Its probably the fact that these seats are in the first 2 rows of each, the Prom Club/Boxes and the Prom Reserve. Definitely a legitimate gripe.

I think where the whole Prom level went wrong is this fixed idea that they wanted it to be an open concourse where you could see the field. They boxed themselves in with this concept and basically had to design around what are obvious obstructions. Frankly, they should have just scrapped that idea from the get go. The Prom doesn't need an open concourse because its so high up to begin with. The reason its a great idea for the field level and the second level is you can see the field from almost anywhere on the concourse. Thats not the case when you're that high up in the Prom level.

Ultimately, they should have designed the Prom much like Camden is. They would have gotten in at least another 2000 seats in there and no one would have complained or even thought twice about not having an open concourse.

Have you ever sat in the first few rows of Shea Stadium's upper deck? You have a great view of all the people coming out of the tunnels all game long. That's not any better of a design idea, in fact, I would argue that's worse as entire rows are obstructed then and not just the couple of seats on the end.

  21. Yes, all stadiums have railings. I've sat in many a front row box at Shea and NEVER had an issue with a railing.

It was 2 horizontal bars with the occasional vertical one to mount it to the ledge. Simple and effective.

Here you have these thick railings that are supposed to be old-timey and fancy-schmancy, when there's a TON more metal than there needs to be to just be safe and effective.

They could've done a much better job.

Hell, Giants Stadium uses ONLY glass, so that...get this...you can actually SEE THROUGH IT...what a concept, and that's from the 70's!

I took this photo on May 27th of last year and thought to myself I sure hope they didn't screw that up at Citi...(and that was just my seat, row 10 of the UD...not 1 or 2). It's not even that bad compared to Citi, which is a shame, because it bugged the hell out of me all game long:

I would think that someone like Phil Mushnick would be all over this one. I am trying to find his email link at The Post. He fancies himself as a crusader for the little guy, and he has written many articles how the paying fan gets screwed.
Having a legit complaint about a seat is not being disloyal to the Mets. You think some Phillie fan is going to drop a wad of cash at a Philly-Mets game, sit in between two staicases in the outfield, and not raise hell about it?

  23. The things I'm furious about are the LED and the LYING...

Im with the guys that say the railing/staircases are quasi-unavoidable. Personally(and especially after seeing that pic from Petco) I dont know why the railing 'type' was chosen. I also dont know why they didnt go with the tunnels, but in either case yes, theres no way to not have any seats that dont have a few issues one way or the other. Its just logic. I know that. Its the nature of seating, and the way the game of baseball itself is played.

The LED blocking home, or at least the lower 20%-25% of those seats views is beyond my comprehension. Its just mind boggling to me how that happened, and like I said...BEST case scenerio is 83 games of horrendous $35-$75 avg seats for those people...in a horrendous economy...where the Mets are shoving these seats down peoples throats...with no warning...AAAHHH!!!...it makes me SO mad...

At least the Mets have informed people that the staircases are an issue. There hasnt been a PEEP about this LED thing from their end. Don't tell me they dont know. BS. They are just covering it up until they have every dollar and they can use the "We swear we didn't know. It will be addressed ASAP, and we truly apologize." CRAPOLA excuse. Well, I'm gonna do everything in my power to blow that plan the hell up.

3 years of a non-stop proganda campaign declaring how GREAT the sitelines are...how EVERY seat in the house gives a great view...sure they do

..I can't sit back with the info I/we have and not at least TRY to get the word out...

Saltzy, I bet if you sent these to WFAN, it would get major attention. You know they'll have Wilpon on sometime during spring training. At least he'll be asked the question and hopefully say it's being addressed. A couple of posts back someone mentioned that the team didn't realize that the LED boards were going to be installed so high on the railing. Then why don't they have this fixed over the next 2 months? There's plenty of time to make the necessary changes before the season starts. The staircases are another story. Just a bad design flaw. I would have gone with the portal look and and open concourses like Nationals Park and dare I say, NYS.

Now we have stickers, obstructions, fake grass, no arches all the way around, smallish center videoboard and black walls to complain about. Did I miss anything??? Ohh! to many Citi Field signs and not one Mets logo, interlocking NY or script Mets anywhere in this place.

If you're going to do it, do it right.

    I'm done ranting

I 'know' him. I went to HS with his nephew. My buddy told me in order...1. sports desk 2. news desk. 3. Mushnick. 4. Everyone else.

I trust his opinion. He used to work for the AP...

    BTW, Its Mushpost@aol.com...

I don't want an op-ed....I want a story about this.
