You can really see the difference if you watch a game on TV from 98, and then watch one from 99.........it was a very minor change, but it completely changed the view on TV behind homeplate....for me atleast

What's interesting is that most of the signs have "Citi Field" covering up "Shea Stadium," but I noticed one on the LIE that had smaller lettering saying "Citi Field" covering up just the word "Shea"... so the sign reads "Citi Field Stadium."

Guess it's cheaper to do that than order a whole new sign ... especially when they will, in all likelihood, be changing it again in the near future if/when Citi bails out on it's deal with the Mets for the naming rights to the new stadium. I recall seeing on President's Day that one of the signs before the Northern Boulevard exit had already covered over the "SHEA STADIUM" notation with matching green sign metal. I was suprised that they did that. You'd THINK either leave it alone, OR cover it over with the name of the new stadium? I didn't see the purpose in doing that, as you're only going to have to send someone back to put the "CITI FIELD" sign up there ..... but this IS the City we're talking about .... so I guess I shouldn't be so suprised!

This was reported last week in the "Citi Field Construction Photos" thread. Other than that photo you posted a while back showing a round Citi Field parking lot directional sign (which I still haven't been able to locate, otherwise I'd have taken my own photo of it by now), this was the first photo we've seen of road signage referring to Citi Field.

I was trying (unsucessfully) to complement your photography. The composition of your photographs is usually right on. Why have this exec from Citi (and the woman who made the Citi model) standing there in a photo with the Shea model but not include the Citi model.

Does anyone remember the lady seated in that section who would constantly roll her arms?

As a die hard Red Sox fan, that lady rolling her arms will be forever printed in my memory of the '86 World Series ... just as much as Buckner's missed ball and Gedman/Stanley's wild pitch

Does anybody else remember taking the train ride around the NYC panorama? it was supposed to be a 'helicopter' ride around the city. They took it out sometime (70's???)and made it a walk around exhibit.

Just left Shea area. I was able to drive onto the "outfield" from the "left bullpen area"which was leveled ,given cemented 'curbs". Area cleaned was from left through to right(as if you drove from bullpen to bullpen. This leveled area, virtually the whole outfield is ready for asphalt. fenced in is the area tarp to second base to tarp and the stadium building footprint. As I drove outside of where gate B used to be there is a small pile of debris, outside of the fence accessible to whoever wants to walk up,in the debris is the mangled remains of the batting cage that was rolled onto the field before the game.

I took the simulated helicopter ride around the model of nyc when i was 10 or 11. i remember it like it was yesterday. fascinating!

the picture above is most likely early 70's during jorgensons first go as a met.

his mother lived a block away from me in bayside and he would occasionly hang out at the school yard and hit a few balls while visiting her.

Strikes a chord from the '71 yearbook, celebrating the wondrous accomplishments of the Florida Instructional League. Note Wayne Garrett in No. 45, occupied in-season by Tug. Things were pretty casual down there.

I'm going to say spring 1968.

Garrett only wore #11 once he made the majors in 1969. Connors wore 45 later in the 69 season but a different number earlier so it wasn't his. 1968 Tug McGraw was not on the major league team and could have had a different number in the minor league camp.

Well, then, son, I appreciate the gesture, but if you - or anyone else - wants to complement the grandeur and the glory that is my photography, all y'all has to do is tell all people that I'm the bestest photographer in the whole wide world forever and ever, heads and shoulders above all professional photographers and those what get paid to do it for a living, and especially even above those who do it better than me.

Regarding the photo that they used, there could be many reasons why they chose to issue a group photo that did not include the Citi Field model. Perhaps it wasn't immediately available at the time all four individuals were ready to pose (scheduling issues, &c.). Maybe it was originally included but whoever was holding it couldn't hold it at a decent angle, or a satisfactory angle. Maybe whoever made the final selection as to why this shot was chosen just decided it was the best photo of all those taken.

this picture was taken in either 1970 or 1971..jorgensen was a regular for the mets in those yrs. his first ever at bat for the mets was sept. 10 1968. this picture was not taken in the fall of '68.

From the 1975 Yankee program, during the Yankees' two-year residency at Shea: a photo from Old Timers' Day 1974 showing the Yankee old timers looking towards Shea's outfield wall...

...the cover to what I'm calling the May 22, 1975 edition of the program (because the earliest date shown in the schedule of this edition is May 22) showing a montage of Yankee game photos... including an action shot of pitcher Doc Medich with the iconic 410-foot marker in the background...

...and finally, a clipping mentioning that one of the Yankees' promotional dates in 1975 will be Banner Day; interesting, since as far as I know they never held a Banner Day at any incarnation of Yankee Stadium.

Well, son, maybe this was the only other photo to pick from? By the way doesn't Shea look much bigger than Citi? Could that be why they didn't want to publish a picture where both are pictured?

    Jane Jarvis

Hoping someone can help out here. Just after the Mets used to take the field and before Jane played the National Anthem she played a song. It wasn't meet the Mets I already have the mp3 of her playing Meets the Mets on her Thomas organ. Does anyone have the song I'm talking about? Any help appreciated.

I've never heard it, but she composed her own song called "Lets Go, Mets." You may write to Howie Rose (or maybe it was Bud Harrelson), as I recall reading somewhere that he had asked her for a CD of her old Shea Stadium Organ Music. I do not believe that any of her Shea music was commercially released except her organ rendition of "Meet the Mets", which was given out as a 4 track CD on "Meet the Mets" CD Day back in 1995 or 1996....

I was there that day with my parents, and she played a whole bunch of stuff on a Casio seating behind home plate. My mom knew everything. My parents used to go to Shea all time back in the 60's. She smiled. Funny what memories surface when one hears a familiar tune.

    Cheers!
